The anime adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan novel series is set to be exclusively streamed on Netflix in 2025.

The anime is a collaboration between Qubic Pictures and Orange, with direction by Christophe Ferreira and an original song by Joe Hisaishi.

The story, set in 1914, follows a prince on the run who meets a girl disguised as a boy on the bioengineered airship Leviathan.

The original novels, published between 2009 and 2011, featured illustrations by Keith Thompson. The anime’s score will be composed by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi, known for their work on various notable projects like Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and RWBY: Ice Queendom.

Qubic Pictures is handling the production, while Orange is in charge of animation. Producers for the project include Justin Leach and Taiki Sakurai, ensuring a high-quality adaptation of the beloved novel series.

In addition, Otakon announced that Qubic Pictures will participate in their convention from August 2-4 in Washington, D.C., where they will showcase the Leviathan anime series.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet key figures such as Justin Leach, producer Katrina Minett, and director Christophe Ferreira. This event promises to offer exclusive insights and previews of the upcoming anime.

As part of its promotional efforts, Netflix has included a brief preview of the Leviathan anime in its Next On Netflix Animation: The Preview for 2024 and Beyond video, which features a snippet of the series at the 0:47 mark.
