Austrian crime investigation series Soko Linz returns with much vigor in season 2, visible from the more intriguing plot line and suspenseful screenplay. The first season of Soko Linz, which premiered in February 2022, led a rollercoaster ride in reviews as it had its highs and lows. Pressured with questions about how to make the show better, the producers have seemingly pulled all stops to make the show a bigger success. Soko Linz is the continuation of the series SOKO Kitzbühel, replacing the latter.
This german show features Katharina Stemburger as Johanna ‘Joe’ Haizinger, the earnest and persistent chief inspector of the team, with a stubborn edge and propensity to unfollow the rules.
Nele Olendorf, played by Anna Hausberg, is an ambitious young woman who occupies the high position of Chief Criminal Commissioner despite her tender age through her tenacious and daring disposition.
And Daniel Galowski as Ben Halberg, a single father and Chief Criminal Commissioner who provides insights into the investigation through psychological profiling.
Other cast members include Damyan Andreev as Aleks Malenov playing the part of an assistant police officer representing the young blood of the unit, a kind soul mainly tasked with research work for the team. Alexander Pschill is Dr. Richard Vitek, a meticulous forensic expert diligent in his work, and always willing to go above and beyond his work description for his ‘SOKO’ team. Miriam Hie plays Yara Nejem, the boss behind her facade of a strict yet soft facility manager and a single mother.
SOKO being a german word abbreviation, refers to a crime investigative unit, and this team’s jurisdiction lies in Linz, located in the tri-border area of Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. This new series was begun with the intention of bringing a more contemporary look to the long-running Soko Kitzbühel.
The co-produced series by ORF and ZDF season sees the usually undisturbed Joe Haizinger lose her composure when someone unwanted from her past knocks on her door, and Nele Oldendorf has newfound confidence in her management role as she leads the team.
There is humor and tension adeptly combined throughout the series as the plotline progresses to show the captivating criminal hunt as well as how the SOKO members juggle their personal lives with their professions.
Much praise was garnered by the team’s compatible dynamics and united front.
