RuPaul’s Drag Race S14 Finale Recap
The finale opened up with eliminated contestants making their way to the stage. RuPaul soon followed in to perform in front of a live audience after a really long time. But before the game could finally begin and the finalists could get started, there was a special announcement to be made.
Michelle Visage came ahead to announce that apart from April 22nd being Earth day, they are going to honor RuPaul for his efforts in shaping RuPaul’s Drag Race Live in Vegas. In doing so, they handed RuPaul a key to the city and declared the day to be ‘RuPaul’s day’.
The final showdown of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 saw Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Bosco, Daya Betty, Lady Camden, and Willow Pill making it into the finale. The first round was “Showgirl Showdown”. This round saw each one of them performing a solo original. The best two will move ahead into a lip-sync competition which will see RuPaul crowning the winner of the fourteenth edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Angeria performed “Check My Track Record” while Bosco picked up a song called “Devil”. Daya went on to perform her original “Fighter” while Lady Camden performed “I Fell Down (I Got Up),” and lastly, Willow Pill performed “I Hate People”. Lady Camden and Willow Pill advanced to the final round, which will see them lip-syncing on Cher’s “Gimme! Gimme ! Gimme!” cover of an ABBA song.
Before the show could reveal its winner for this season, winners of the past season, which included RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 winner Symone and Season 13’s Miss Congeniality Lala Ri, joined the stage to crown this year’s Miss Congeniality.
Kornbread won the title with a prize of $10,000 despite having to leave the show due to an injury sustained earlier in the fourth episode of the season during the acting challenge. Kornbread had mentioned earlier that it was an unfortunate short journey. She wasn’t going to return for the fifteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Despite it being short, it seems like it was worth it as we saw her becoming Miss Congeniality.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 Winner Revealed
After a long-lasting season of cut-throat performances, Willow Pill and Lady Camden gave their all out in the lip-sync battle. If we look at the audience, they clearly had decided who was going to be the winner. The one who actually turned the show upside down.
Despite the fact both queens went into a neck-to-neck battle, in the end, there was going to be one winner. This saw RuPaul crowning Willow Pill as the winner. Thus, Willow became the first openly trans person to become a Drag Superstar.
Apart from that, Willow also won $150,000, which is the largest prize ever in RuPaul’s Drag Race’s history. The runner-up, Lady Camden, won $50,000. Willow’s mother and sister had come to the finale to show their support as Willow won the title. She thanked them and her friends and especially Kornbread’s ankle.
Willow and Kornbread go way back and are pretty close to each other. Willow, in an interview, had mentioned that the world of the internet wouldn’t understand their friendship.
