Star Wars kicked off the year 2024 with the announcement of The New Adventures of the Mandalorian and Grogu to be seen on the big screen of movie theaters.
On January 9, Star Wars announced it on their official website about their upcoming movie, which will be directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni. It is slated that the Mandalorian and Grugo will be heading off for production in 2024.
The new Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu is based on an extremely successful Disney+ series that starred Pedro Pascal. Favreau has helped in the creation of the show, which will have introduced the two characters: the popular bounty hunter and his baby Yoda friend (whose real name is Grogu and not Baby Yoda). No release dates have been given yet.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ of Star Wars will be seen on the big screen.
On Tuesday, the official Star Wars website announced their upcoming movie, which will take place following the events of The Mandalorian’s 3rd season and is said to be entering production in late 2024.
The movie is said to be directed and produced by Jon Favreau, along with Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm), who are executive producers. He was the one who helped in the creation of the show, which introduced the character of a popular boundary hunter and his baby Yoda friend (whose actual name is Grogu).
Favreau, in regard to this new movie and its characters, said, “I have loved to tell stories in the rich world that George Lucas created.” He also added that “the prospect of bringing Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
The perspectives and the idea behind bringing the two characters to the big screen are yet to be revealed, as no further information has been stated by the production house or Star Wars, but according to the words of the director, it’s going to be “extremely exciting.”
In the same announcement, it was said that “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screens” by Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
With the announcement of this new upcoming film, it might raise doubts if it is a replacement for the ones that were announced in 2023, but it was confirmed by Lucasfilm that ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ is not a replacement for any of the three upcoming star films that were announced back in April 2023 at the Star Wars celebration.
In the series of announcements, the news of Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey to chronicle her journey to rebuild a new Jedi Order was also included. In the latest news about the upcoming movie Lucasfilm, it was also explained that “The Mandalorian and Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni” in a short news post announcement.
Sharmeen is going to be the first woman to direct a Star Wars film. She said, “We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away,” marking this achievement of hers.
Dave Filoni, in the New Republic era of the franchise, has become one of the busiest guys as he is leading the second season of Ahsoka, according to the same post announcement of his production of the new Mando film and also directing his own Star Wars movie.
The Disney Plus series, which starred Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, is now one of the most popular and critically acclaimed new characters from the Star Wars universe, following its nomination for the Best Drama Series at the Emmy Awards.
This decision in regard to their upcoming movie, Star Wars, has paved the way for many other Star Wars films as well. Their center of focus is now to be on exploring the universe on a big rather than small screen. Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “You pull back not just to focus but also as a part of our cost-containing initiative, spending less on what we make and making less.”
The release dates for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ as well as ‘Ahsoka’ season 2 are yet to be announced. Last year was the 2019 release of ‘Rise of the Skywalker’ from the Star Wars film, which made $1 billion worldwide, but the reviews were still middling.
