Rockstar Games is pushing the realism of Grand Theft Auto 6 beyond its previous games, and players will apparently need to think about something surprisingly ordinary: getting enough sleep. Rockstar North co-studio head and GTA 6 development lead Rob Nelson confirmed that Jason and Lucia’s sleep will be tracked through an in-game health app.
The detail emerged during a preview of GTA 6 with content creator TGG, who visited Rockstar North and saw the game in action. Nelson explained that the system does more than simply record sleep, as being poorly rested can have a gameplay impact.
GTA 6 Sleep System Will Affect Jason and Lucia’s Recovery
Speaking to TGG, Nelson said,
“It will say whether you’re well rested or not. That will have some effect on regen of certain attributes. We track lots of things – all this good stuff.”
Rockstar has not yet revealed exactly which attributes are affected or how much sleep Jason and Lucia need before the game considers them fully rested. However, the system means players who constantly keep the protagonists active may see slower recovery compared with characters who regularly rest.

Sleep is part of a broader physical simulation in GTA 6. Eating excessively can make Jason and Lucia gain weight, while exercise can build muscle and improve their physical condition. Muscle can also decline when players stop maintaining it.
The game will reportedly track other everyday details too, including vehicle fuel and charging. Rockstar has also experimented with systems such as grocery shopping and restocking the protagonists’ refrigerator, although the latter was ultimately removed to avoid making the game overly demanding.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
