Riot Games has changed course on one of League of Legends’ most debated gameplay additions after widespread community discussion. The developer announced that Last Hit Indicators, a feature designed to help players secure minion kills more consistently, will no longer be introduced to Ranked Summoner’s Rift for now.
Instead, Riot will continue testing the system exclusively in non-ranked game modes while collecting additional data and player feedback. The move comes after mixed reactions from the League community, with some players welcoming the accessibility improvement while others argued it could reduce one of the game’s core skill expressions.
Riot postpones Ranked rollout for Last Hit Indicators
In an official update shared on the League of Legends X account, Riot explained why it decided to reverse its earlier plan.
The developer stated:
“We’ve seen a lot of conversation around Last Hit Indicators coming to Ranked, and we’ve decided to enable them in non-Ranked SR queues only for continued testing.”
Riot added that it wants more evidence before deciding whether the feature belongs in competitive play.
“We want to get more data and feedback to decide if we should make them an option for Ranked before making that call.”
For now, the feature will remain available—but disabled by default—in Swiftplay, Co-op vs AI, and Normal Draft. Riot says it will continue refining the system while sharing updates through future developer blogs and Dev Updates.
What are Last Hit Indicators?

Last hitting is one of the most important mechanics in League of Legends. Players earn gold by dealing the final blow to enemy minions, making proper timing essential for building an early advantage during the laning phase.
Last Hit Indicators visually show when a minion can be killed with a basic attack, helping newer players better understand damage thresholds without relying entirely on experience or intuition.
The feature is primarily aimed at reducing the learning curve for beginners entering League of Legends, one of the world’s most mechanically demanding multiplayer games.
Community remains divided over the feature
The proposed Ranked implementation quickly became a topic of debate among League players.
Supporters believe Last Hit Indicators could make League more approachable for newcomers without fundamentally changing combat or strategic decision-making. They argue that understanding wave management, positioning, champion matchups, trading, and objective control would remain just as important.
Critics, however, believe last hitting is a foundational skill that players should master on their own before entering competitive matches. Many worry that adding visual assistance to Ranked could reduce the skill gap that has defined League’s laning phase for years.
The mixed response appears to have influenced Riot’s decision to delay the Ranked rollout while gathering more feedback from casual game modes.
Riot will continue testing before making a final decision
Although Ranked players won’t see the feature immediately, Riot has not ruled it out permanently.
According to the developer’s statement, Last Hit Indicators will remain part of ongoing testing in non-ranked Summoner’s Rift queues. The company intends to study player behavior, collect feedback, and make improvements before determining whether the feature should eventually become an optional setting for Ranked play.
By limiting testing to casual modes, Riot can evaluate how the system affects new-player learning without immediately changing the competitive experience that veteran players value.
For now, Ranked matches will continue without Last Hit Indicators while Riot gathers additional data. Whether the feature ultimately reaches competitive play will depend on the results of that testing and continued community feedback.
