Robert Kirkman has shared one of the biggest updates yet about the long-term future of Invincible, revealing that he believes the acclaimed Prime Video series is on course to adapt the entire comic book story.
The creator made the comments during an interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, offering fans renewed confidence that Mark Grayson’s complete journey could eventually reach the screen.
The animated superhero series has become one of Prime Video’s most successful original shows, earning praise for faithfully adapting Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s Image Comics series. With Season 6 already ordered and Season 5 scheduled for 2027, the adaptation appears closer than ever to reaching its planned conclusion.

Asked about the show’s future, Kirkman sounded increasingly confident that Invincible will be able to tell the full story from the comics.
“It’s looking very likely that we will be able to adapt the entire comic, so that’s very exciting,”
Kirkman said.
The creator has previously estimated that adapting all 144 issues would require around seven to eight seasons. With Season 6 already confirmed by Prime Video, the series has moved another step toward that goal.
Kirkman even joked about his confidence when interviewer Steve Weintraub suggested betting on the show’s future, replying,
“I might be able to do some insider trading on that.”
While the remark was made in jest, it reflected his optimism about the adaptation’s long-term prospects.
Season 5 remains the immediate priority
Although fans are already thinking about Season 7 and beyond, Kirkman stressed that the team’s focus remains on delivering Season 5. He also confirmed that there is currently no official release date, but the new season will arrive sometime in 2027.
The creator explained that producing a high-quality animated series remains a lengthy process.
“It still takes three years to make a season of animation, so the only way we’re able to do that is by staggering them and having teams trade off on working different seasons as we go.”
Meanwhile, Kirkman previously revealed that Season 6 is already deep into production while the team completes the final animation and post-production work on Season 5. That overlapping workflow has helped Invincible maintain a near-annual release schedule after the lengthy gap between its first two seasons.
If the series continues its current momentum, fans may eventually see the entire Invincible saga faithfully adapted from beginning to end, fulfilling one of the biggest hopes surrounding the Prime Video hit.
