Yeon Sang-ho, the director of Train to Busan, is strengthening his successful collaboration with Netflix with his new film, Revelations. The movie is set to premiere on the streaming platform next month.
It was first announced in mid-2024 and features a major creative partnership between Yeon Sang-ho and Academy Award nominee Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity), who serves as an executive producer.
While Revelations explores a different story than Train to Busan, both films share supernatural elements. Netflix has now shared a first look at Revelations, releasing a gripping trailer filled with intense action and mystery.
Revelations is based on Yeon Sang-ho’s webtoon of the same name. The story follows two main characters whose lives become connected as they search for the truth behind a missing person’s case. Min-chan (Ryu Jun-yeol) is a pastor who believes he has received a divine vision revealing the person responsible for a young churchgoer’s disappearance.
His suspicions fall on Kwon Yang-rae (Shin Min-jae), a former convict who visits the church shortly after being released from prison. At the same time, troubled detective Yeon-hui (Shin Hyun-been) is haunted by visions of his deceased sister. As he investigates the case, he begins to see a connection between Min-chan and Yang-rae. These discoveries set off a series of intense confrontations that drive the story forward.
The trailer offers additional clues, suggesting that Min-chan may have misunderstood his revelation. By the time he realizes his mistake, it is already too late, and he must deal with the consequences. The trailer includes a dramatic tagline: “With twisted faith, madness begins.”
The scenes that follow showcase a growing sense of chaos, fast-paced action, and violent confrontations. The teaser highlights the emotional intensity of the film, a quality that Yeon Sang-ho demonstrated masterfully in Train to Busan.
What’s Next for Yeon Sang-ho?
Yeon Sang-ho has continued to prove that his success was not a one-time achievement. His animated prequel to Train to Busan, Seoul Station, was well-received, and he has gone on to create several popular Netflix projects.
His 2023 science fiction film Jung_E, and the 2024 live-action adaptation of Parasyte: The Grey have further expanded his influence. His supernatural dark fantasy series Hellbound, which debuted in 2021, was also a hit and has been confirmed for a second season.
For Revelations, Yeon Sang-ho once again collaborated with Hellbound writer Choi Gyu-seok, who was commissioned to write the screenplay.
In addition to Hellbound Season 2, Yeon Sang-ho is working on several other projects. These include 35th Street, a film produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, a mystery thriller titled Face, and an adaptation of the classic Japanese sci-fi story The Human Vapor.
Netflix will release Revelations worldwide on March 21, 2025. Fans can watch the thrilling trailer now and prepare for another intense cinematic experience from Yeon Sang-ho.
