Resident Evil just expanded its franchise with Netflix. The long-running series of movies now has its own series on the popular streaming platform. So let’s talk about the Resident Evil release date, the plot, and who’s in it. It seemed like the series concluded back in 2016 with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. But somehow, they managed to bring it back for another fresh take on an old concept.
This upcoming series features a before and after the zombies/monsters take on the story, judging from what we can see in the trailer. Moreover, the series starring Ella Balinska and Siena Agudong takes a family setting as two siblings start to become suspicious of their father and his corporate shenanigans. Then, we jump to after the disaster, where the zombies run rampant. But let’s not jump ahead and start unpacking this topic for you.
A New Take On An Old Story And Concept
Albert Wesker’s Story In Resident Evil
Albert Wesker, like series regulars Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, first appeared in the original Resident Evil in 1996. Wesker is introduced as the captain of the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad, a special operations squad tasked with investigating a string of suspicious homicides on the outskirts of Raccoon City. But, while Wesker appears to be a helpful ally as the player explores the zombie-infested hallways of Spencer Mansion, he is soon shown to have his own dark goal.
In the game’s conclusion, Wesker betrays his own squad, showing himself to be a double agent working for the Umbrella Corporation. Wesker’s task is to watch the zombies and report back on their military efficiency after they were exposed to Umbrella’s experimental T-virus bioweapon. Wesker appears to be slain in a facility deep beneath the mansion, but not before freeing Umbrella’s most lethal creature, the Tyrant.
Resident Evil Plot
Netflix and showrunner Andrew Dabb have been a little tight-lipped about the plot. Furthermore, what we do know about the plot is that the series takes place in 2036, fourteen years after a deadly plague caused a global pandemic and a worldwide apocalypse. There, a girl named Jade Wesker fights for her survival in a world overrun by infected creatures.
So, that’s pretty much what we do know about Resident Evil’s plot. We do know that Jade’s dad is somehow connected to the Umbrella Corporation. But as to the plot intricacies, we’re just going to have to wait until the premiere.
Cast
The cast includes Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Paola Núñez, Adeline Rudolph, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, Turlough Convery Lance Reddick, and Sienna Agudong in unnamed roles. Furthermore, the series will have an eight-episode run, and it is executive produced by Mary Leah Sutton, who also wrote most of the episodes for the debut season.
Four Different Directors
The series’ eight episodes are directed by four different talented persons behind the camera. Firstly, we have Rachel Goldberg, who directed Muted. Secondly, there’s Batan Sliva, who directed The Flight Attendant. Third, Bronwen Hughes worked with Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. And lastly, Rob Seidenglanz, who directed episodes for Riverdale.
