Capcom appears to have a long-term plan for bringing its Resident Evil remakes and newer numbered games together.
In the Biohazard 30th Special Mook, Resident Evil director Jun Takeuchi explained that Capcom currently treats the franchise as two connected tracks, with remakes revisiting older stories while new games continue the modern timeline.
“Someday, the remake series will catch up with the era of the numbered titles, and we are already thinking about what we will do when that happens,”
Takeuchi said, according to information shared by RENews_X.
Takeuchi also revealed that Capcom has been preparing for this eventual crossover since around Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. References to major elements of the franchise, including Umbrella and Spencer, have increasingly appeared in newer games.
Resident Evil Requiem Is Already Part of That Setup
The return of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem is another major piece of Capcom’s strategy. Rather than treating these callbacks as isolated Easter eggs, the developer appears to be using them to gradually connect the franchise’s different eras.
Takeuchi explained that some of the references originally existed largely as fan service. However, players began paying closer attention to those connections, encouraging Capcom to develop the idea further in Resident Evil Village and Requiem.

This could eventually create a situation where the stories being remade begin overlapping with the era established by the newer games.
Takeuchi’s comments do not explicitly confirm a Resident Evil 6 remake, but the long-term plan raises obvious questions about how Capcom intends to handle the games that sit between the classic era and Resident Evil 7.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica is reportedly next in line for a remake, while rumors have also pointed toward a new version of the original Resident Evil. If Capcom continues remaking the older numbered entries, it will eventually have to address Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.
For now, Capcom has not announced a release schedule for those projects. However, Takeuchi’s comments make it clear that the company is already thinking beyond individual remakes and toward a larger point where the two sides of the franchise can finally converge.
