If you want to know everything about the rapper and DJ Redman, you’ve come to the right place because we will tell you all about it, his life, the highs and lows of his career, and all his awards and nominations.
Born on April 17, 1970, he is better known and recognized by his official stage name, “Redman.” However, his birth name is Reginald Noble. The American rapper, DJ, actor, host, and record producer first rose to fame in the early 1990s as an artist registered with the “Def Jam” label. His collaborations with his close friend and East Coast rapper Method Man, who was also a member of Def Jam in the 1990s, are widely famous across the globe. The hip-hop duo starred in various TV shows as well, some of which are “How High” and “Method and Red.”
Redman’s Early Life
Reginald was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, where he attended the Speedway Avenue School and 13th Avenue School. He then got enrolled at West Side High School. He later described his high school experience as “off the hook” in an interview.
Due to poor academic performance during his freshman year at college, Redman was expelled from Montclair State University at the age of 16. Redman, having no other choice, went back to living with his mother, Darlene Noble, but she also kicked him out of the house because of the fact that he was selling cocaine behind her back.
He became established as a DJ just two years later, at the age of 18. He went by the stage name “DJ Kut Killa” in the initial stage of his career. Much of his rise to international fame can be credited to his freestyling over funk and hip-hop instrumental tracks on vinyl records. He used to perform in different parks and house parties around New York and New Jersey before he was eventually discovered by Erick Sermon of EPMD while he was a DJ for “Lords of the Underground.”
At an EPMD show in New York in 1990, the rapper was invited onstage by Erick Sermon, and he captivated the audience when he freestyled a rap. The rap changed his life as it described his life as a rapper using every letter in the English alphabet, from A to Z. This is when he got his first record deal. Under Erick Sermon’s production label, he kick-started production on his first album, “Whut? Thee,” and has not looked back since.
