PlayStation’s God of War franchise is entering one of its busiest periods yet, with five games now officially confirmed to be in development at Santa Monica Studio. The growing lineup includes the upcoming God of War Laufey, a newly confirmed Kratos-led sequel, and long-awaited remakes of the original Greek trilogy.
The latest announcement came during the God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Santa Monica Studio creative head Cory Barlog appeared alongside game director Ariel Lawrence and cast members Christopher Judge, Deborah Ann Woll, Jack Quaid, and Perlina Lau.
God of War Laufey launches in February 2027
The biggest confirmed announcement from the panel was the release date for God of War Laufey, which is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027. The prequel follows Faye, Kratos’ late wife, as she embarks on a journey through the mysterious Everywhen, with events that ultimately connect to God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök.
However, the panel delivered an unexpected surprise when Cory Barlog accidentally revealed that another mainline Kratos game is already in development.
“I was actually talking to the director of the next Kratos game earlier this week about all the different things that are going… oh, did I just announce the next Kratos game?”
Barlog quickly joked about the slip before confirming an important story detail.
“It directly connects to the events of Laufey.”
Although no title, platforms, or release window were announced, the confirmation indicates that Santa Monica Studio already has plans for the franchise beyond God of War Laufey.
The newly confirmed sequel joins three previously announced projects that were revealed earlier in February 2026. Alongside the surprise launch of God of War: Sons of Sparta, Sony confirmed that remakes of God of War, God of War II, and God of War III are also in development.
While Santa Monica Studio has yet to clarify whether these remakes will release individually or as part of a bundled collection, the projects are expected to modernize Kratos’ original Greek saga for current-generation platforms. Veteran voice actor TC Carson, who portrayed the younger Kratos in the original trilogy, is also returning for the remakes.
With these announcements, the franchise’s confirmed development slate now includes:

The roadmap also highlights PlayStation’s continued investment in one of its flagship franchises. While many fans expected future entries to shift their focus toward Atreus following the conclusion of the Norse saga, Sony’s latest announcements suggest Kratos will remain at the center of the series for years to come, even as the studio revisits the original adventures that established the franchise.
