The anime Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time is based on Daisuke Hiyama’s Japanese ecchi fantasy manga series. Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra Season 2 is the next thing for this anime. The series follows Peter Grill, dubbed “the strongest man in the world,” and the unexpected situations he encounters as a result of his title. As a sex comedy, both the anime and manga adaptations are naturally crammed with fanservice. Both versions have plenty of male and female nudity, though the anime version is censored and the manga version is shown in an undefined form.
The two main evaluation criteria are whether or not the series fulfills its fanservice obligations and whether or not it is humorous. It performs admirably on the first point and mediocrely on the second. Some will likely find this too obscene to bear, but if you don’t expect much more than basic entertainment value, it can be a nice little viewing experience.

On September 25, 2019, an anime television series adaptation was announced in the November 2019 issue of Monthly Action. Nora Mori wrote the scripts and Rui Ishige designed the characters for the series, which was animated by Wolfsbane and directed by Tatsumi. It aired on Tokyo MX, AT-X, and GYT from July 11 to September 26, 2020.
Yui Ninomiya as her character Luvelia Sanctus sang the opening theme song, “Tsurenaite Ytsu” (“Piercing Melancholy”). Hilcrhyme sang the concluding theme song, “Yoridokoro” (“A Shoulder to Lean On”). “Ti amo” was an insert song performed by Shusei’s Project. The series was licensed by Sentai Filmworks and is now available on HIDIVE. The series was also available to watch on Crunchyroll.
HIDIVE announced on August 13, 2020, that the series would be dubbed in English. It was announced on November 11, 2021, that a second season has been approved. The second season, named Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra, contains the same cast and crew as the first, with Seven serving as a supporting studio.
The Plot of Peter Grill and Philosopher’s Time
The Grand Fighting Tournament is held every ten years to determine the title of Strongest Man on Earth. For the first time in 150 years, the title is awarded to a human: Peter Grill, a Yappekachi Warriors Guild adventurer. Both Peter and fellow guild member Luvellia see this as a way to persuade Luvellia’s obstinate father, Guildmaster Albatross, to let them marry.
Peter, on the other hand, failed to realize that one of the side effects of being the Strongest Man is that women of many races will actively want to seduce him in the hopes of having strong children with him. Being surrounded by so many lovely ladies overwhelms him and puts his self-control to the test. So, in the end, everything boils down to a matter of choice.
He may either abandon his existing relationship with Luvelia in pursuit of guilty pleasures, or he can face the anguish of denying the attention he’s receiving and remain faithful to his fiancée. Peter wants to be faithful, but it proves to be difficult to do so in the face of tenacious ogre sisters, a seductive elf, and a surprisingly attractive orc while also staving off Guildmaster from killing him.
Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time Season 1 Recap
Season 1 of Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time premiered on Friday, July 10, 2020, with a total of 12 episodes. The season first started with Peter professing his wish to marry Luvelia Sanctus and to remain pure for her after being crowned the strongest warrior in the world, however, he is faced with the ogre sisters Mimi and Lisa Alpacas who want to copulate with him in order to give birth to strong offspring.
In the second episode, Luvelia tells her father about her engagement to Peter who is dissatisfied with the scenario. Mimi and Lisa blackmail Peter into mating with them till they get pregnant, taking his pants off, at the guild’s party that night. When Luvelia and then her father arrives, it’s an unpleasant situation. Peter, Mimi, and Lisa are in his room the next day when they notice a female elf staring at him from a rooftop. The next day when Peter wakes up from a nightmare involving Luvelia and her father, he notices a female elf straddling him, her name is Vegan Eldoriel. She then puts a curse on Peter when he rejects her, while Luvelia is captured by a monster she was hunting.
Most of the first season revolves around Peter being unfaithful towards Luvelia, like in episodes four, six, and seven he ends up sleeping with all the girls in his life and regrets it afterward – only to repeat it the next day. Meanwhile, Luvelia is off to the side dreaming about her future with Peter.
The anime omitted a minor story arc from Chapters 6 and 7, in which the group was caught in a storm while journeying and sought refuge in the cabin of an elderly Ogre. However, Episode 7 modified a section of Chapter 7, in which they all got intoxicated, the sprite Agape exploded, and the girls agreed to form a formal pact to divide Peter’s affections. Piglette hadn’t been introduced yet in the manga because Luvelia’s father didn’t receive the message from Orcland until Chapter 8.
As a result, the anime adaptation rearranged the circumstances so that she could be a part of the drunken scene. Piglette declared she was alright just being one of Peter’s lovers in Episode 7, which merged over the apron scene from Chapter 11 and how she claimed she was fine just being one of Peter’s lovers. The only problem with the anime omitting this manga narrative arc is that it contained significant foreshadowing about the Ogre sisters’ past.
In the second half of Chapter 11, when the girls had a conference to finalize the terms of their interspecies breeding treaty, Episode 8 started up the plot anew. The girls shamelessly disobeyed the non-aggression pact and interfered with Peter’s rendezvous with Luvelia in Chapter 12.
Overall, the animation maintained a rhythm of roughly 1.5 chapters adapted per episode.
