Pearl Abyss says Crimson Desert players should expect fewer major regular updates going forward as the studio shifts development resources toward the game’s upcoming DLC.
Speaking to IGN during Gamescom, Pearl Abyss America PR and marketing director Will Powers explained that the newly released Crimson Desert Enhanced 2.0 update represents a major transition point for the game. While support will continue, the development team is now preparing to put greater focus on the DLC planned for later in 2026.
Pearl Abyss Is Shifting Its Focus From Regular Updates to DLC
Powers said Crimson Desert Enhanced brings together the work Pearl Abyss has completed since the game’s launch, describing version 2.0 as a more fully realized experience within the world of Pywel.
“I think this is a great transition point,”
Powers said.
“While there still will be updates, I don’t think the scope and scale and pace of them will be as consistent past this point.”

He then revealed the key reason for the change:
“What we’re taking this opportunity to do is shift our development resources from these regular updates to focus on the upcoming DLC.”
The statement marks a major change after months of frequent post-launch support. Pearl Abyss says Crimson Desert received 17 patches featuring more than 20 new features and content additions, along with over 120 mounts and pets and more than 70 outfits, equipment pieces, and items. Pearl Abyss
The Crimson Desert Enhanced update adds new story moments and cutscenes, expanded voice support, and improvements to the skill system. Five new fully voiced languages were also added, while Arabic support is available for subtitles and interface text. Pearl Abyss
Powers also confirmed that the paid Crimson Desert DLC remains planned for Q4 2026, although Pearl Abyss has not yet revealed its story or gameplay details. For now, the studio appears to be entering a new phase where major development efforts will move away from frequent free updates and toward expanding the world of Pywel through DLC.
