Pearl Abyss has revealed new details about the audio production behind Crimson Desert, showcasing the extensive sound-design work used to make its open world feel more immersive.

The behind-the-scenes video was released through the official Pearl Abyss Music YouTube channel on September 9, 2026, featuring Executive Audio Director Hwiman Ryu, Music Director Inro Joo, and sound designers Myeong-hoon Kim and Won-beom Lee.

According to bts video, Pearl Abyss recorded environmental sounds directly, including footsteps in snow and birds, while capturing natural reverberation from locations such as parking structures, hallways, and buildings. The team also created a virtual version of the traditional Nordic tagelharpa, which was resampled for use in the game’s soundtrack.

The sound team paid particularly close attention to the Golden Star boss, creating Foley for individual joint movements to make its animations sound convincing. Music was also designed to respond naturally to combat, while regional field tracks change according to the atmosphere and circumstances of different areas in the open world.

This attention to audio comes as Crimson Desert earns recognition at the 2026 World Soundtrack Awards, where its music is among the five finalists for the Game Music Award. The official WSA credits Hwiman Ryu, Inro Joo, Hyoung Woo Roh, Jiyoon Kim, and Dongjune Oh for the game’s score.
