Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert could eventually receive multiplayer or co-op features, but the studio is not ready to officially announce either mode. Speaking with IGN at Gamescom, Pearl Abyss America’s Director of PR and Marketing, Will Powers, said the developer is still investigating whether multiplayer can work without compromising what makes the game unique.
The studio’s position is clear: multiplayer is a possibility, not a confirmed feature. According to Powers, Pearl Abyss is exploring several ways to expand the Crimson Desert universe while carefully considering the technological demands of adding co-op or multiplayer. The priority remains protecting the game’s visual fidelity and the core identity established by its single-player experience.
Multiplayer Could Arrive in Crimson Desert or a Future Sequel
When asked directly about multiplayer, Powers said there is currently no official confirmation. However, he explained that Pearl Abyss is exploring whether it can introduce co-op or multiplayer without changing the experience fans expect from Crimson Desert.
“I think it’s incredibly important to maintain the core identity of Crimson Desert,”
Powers said.
“And if we’re able to do co-op or multiplayer, something like that, without compromising that core identity… then yeah, it could come down the line in this version, in a potential sequel, whatever that looks like.”
Powers also stressed that the studio is examining the technology behind such a feature. This means multiplayer could potentially arrive through a future update or expansion, but Pearl Abyss has not committed to a specific version of the game.
For now, the studio is also preparing paid DLC planned for Q4 and a Nintendo Switch 2 release targeted for the first half of 2027. The current focus appears to be on expanding Crimson Desert while preserving the single-player experience before making any major commitment to co-op or multiplayer.
