Mistfall Hunter Becomes Steam’s Best-Selling Game, Overtaking Palworld and Halo: Campaign Evolved

A new contender has claimed the top spot on Steam’s best-selling games chart. Mistfall Hunter, the newly released dark fantasy extraction action RPG from Bellring Games and Skystone Games, has overtaken recent chart leaders Palworld and Halo: Campaign Evolved, becoming the platform’s current No. 1 best-selling title.

The game’s rapid rise comes shortly after launch, with its discounted Steam price and day-one availability through PC Game Pass helping it attract significant attention.

According to Steam’s global top sellers rankings, Mistfall Hunter now sits ahead of several high-profile titles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Cyberpunk 2077. 

Mistfall Hunter tops Steam despite mixed early reviews

While Mistfall Hunter has become Steam’s top-selling game, player reception has been more measured than its commercial performance suggests. At the time of writing, the RPG holds a “Mostly Positive” user rating on Steam, with roughly 72% positive reviews from more than 1,500 players.

Many users have praised the game’s combat, extraction mechanics, and dark fantasy setting. However, criticism has focused on performance issues and limitations affecting solo players, with several reviewers calling for additional balancing and optimization.

Despite those concerns, Bellring Games announced that the title surpassed 100,000 players within its first 24 hours, highlighting strong launch-day interest. The developer has already released an early update and confirmed that further optimization patches are in development to address player feedback.

Although Mistfall Hunter currently leads the chart, Halo: Campaign Evolved remains in second place, while Palworld continues its resurgence following the release of version 1.0 earlier this month. The updated edition has helped Pocketpair’s survival game regain momentum after its full launch.

Other games currently occupying Steam’s best-selling list include Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Corsair Cove, Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, How Many Dudes, Gears of War: E-Day, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and Cyberpunk 2077. Several of these titles have benefited from recent announcements, pre-orders, or promotional discounts.

Whether Mistfall Hunter can hold the No. 1 position remains uncertain. The extraction RPG enters one of Steam’s most competitive release windows, with several major PC launches scheduled throughout August that could quickly reshape the platform’s sales rankings.
