We all love a good fast, paced action game. There is always something satisfying about using your abilities, smashing enemies through the walls, or putting a bullet through the bad guys’ heads. People have always been excited about games that use sci-fi action and some badass characters. Bring all that action into an online game, and everyone will be happy, right? Maybe not.
“Outriders” was released on 1st April 2022. The game was developed by “People Can Fly,” which has been a part of many other masterpieces such as Bulletstorm and published by none other than “Square Enix.” It is available for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
Outriders is an action third-person role-playing game that looks like it has everything to make it a big hit. It has great action, really cool sci-fi gadgets, badass characters, and some sick animations that we have not seen in a while. Still, the game is not able to make the fans completely happy. It is receiving some mixed reviews from critics and some backlash from fans.
So why is Outriders getting all this? Where did the game fall short? or is it a great game? Let’s find out.
At first sight, the game looked like it had immense potential. It finally looked like that there is finally an action shooter game that could give games like Destiny and The Division competition. Soon the players started complaining and criticizing the game.
The same plot of Earth being destroyed and humans leaving Earth to live on a different planet is not new in the gaming world. Other people have complaints about the voice acting, while some say that the character development isn’t as good as one would hope. Some people have fallen in love with the game and have had nothing but positive comments about it.
Gameplay:
The game starts, and you have to design your custom character. The player can choose from a wide variety of various styles to make their character look their best. You can pick different hairstyles and different hair colors and even select other facial features such as beards and scars.
After the player is done with character building, you can choose whether you want to play the prologue, skip to the main story, or play the world-slayer category, where you just select your path and boost your character straight to level 30.
The game provides the player with four path options to choose from, these include:-
Technomancer: The Technomancer possesses long-range support gadgets such as turrets that can be helpful to fight enemies from a distance
Pyromancer: Pyromancer is a fire manipulator who comes in handy in medium-range combats.
Trickster: Trickster is mostly useful in close-range combat, and its basic fighting style is hit and run.
Devastator: Devastator is also helpful for close-range combat, but unlike Trickster, it can be used to hold your ground.
The player jumps into the game, and it looks pretty decent at first look. The controls work well, and the shooting and aiming mechanisms are acceptable. You have to fight against aliens, monsters, and other such enemies. Aiming is very smooth, and the gameplay feels better than many other games. You can hide behind covers or perform military rolls to dodge enemy attacks.
You can use various weapons, such as machine guns and shotguns, to hurt and kill your enemies. Grenades can also be used to cause a lot more damage. The use of grenades comes out to be very helpful while fighting bigger enemies. You can see your location on the map provided in the top left corner, and the weapon you are using is displayed at the bottom right corner of your screen.
Your health bar is shown on the bottom left corner of your screen. Health is reduced if the player gets hit by the enemy. Health can be replenished by inflicting damage on your opponents. The more damage the player inflicts, the more his/her health regenerates.
On the center middle part of your screen, you can see the skills that you have currently equipped. The player can choose which skills to equip from the skill menu, but he/she can only equip three skills at a time. Each skill has its use and can be helpful during different parts of a battle.
You will also find some loot while going from one location to another, and this can be used for buying different equipment or abilities to upgrade your character and make the game a little bit easier. Enemies will suddenly attack you from random directions, so you always have to be attentive and react quickly.
Overall the gameplay is amazing, with no major flaws. It is well-animated and looks fine. Everything from shooting to the use of special abilities feels great, and it is a lot of fun playing the game.
Graphics:
Graphics is one of the places that the game falls short, they are decent and look good, but it does live up to the standards of the games we see nowadays. The graphics, though not terrible, still could have been way better than what we got to see. They are not complete trash, and some parts of the game look truly amazing.
After jumping into the game, the first thing the players are going to notice is the player models. The characters look very basic, and although they may seem decent, it still feels like there is a lot of room to add more details. The terrains do not look as good as one would expect. They lack a lot of depth and detail, and the surroundings look very bland.
The surroundings and character graphics may not look very great, but that is the only part where the game disappoints us. Apart from that, everything else looks amazing. The fire models look great. Explosions are very well-animated and have great detailing, making them look stunning, which feels great.
There is nothing else to pinpoint about the graphics of the game as everything else, from enemies to bullet impacts and damage effects, looks remarkable in every way.

Outriders review:
Talking about the positives of the game, it has great gameplay that is fun and smooth. Players can easily enjoy it, everything from movement to shooting mechanisms feels great, and there is nothing much to pinpoint and criticize about it. The game can be enjoyed by those who have been playing TPS games for a long time and also those who are new to the genre.
The graphics are something to talk about as it is not what the players expected; comparing it to other games released in the past year, Outriders does not come out to be very great and falls a bit short. The graphics may look good to some but players for whom graphics is a big deal will feel a little disappointed.
“Outriders” does well to hold its known, and overall it is a good game. It is fun to play, and if you don’t care much about visuals, you will not be disappointed and will surely enjoy it. The game is not bad at all, but it can not be compared to other games in its genre, such as Destiny or The Division.
The game is worth your time and money if you are just looking for a simple fun to play game, but it is not good enough to be your first choice if you are looking for the best third-person shooter game out there.
Our Rating: ⭐ (3/5).
