The long wait for Outlander fans is nearly over. In exactly one month, on November 22, the second part of Outlander Season 7 will finally premiere on Starz.
Fans have eagerly been waiting to see the continuation of the love story between Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
But even with the excitement for new episodes, viewers are aware that the end of this beloved series is approaching. Outlander is set to conclude after its upcoming eighth season.
Filming for the final season has already wrapped, and now series star Sam Heughan has shared some updates on how the production is going.
During the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Heughan spoke about the experience of filming the final episode of the series.
When asked if production on the final season had been completed, Heughan confirmed, “Yes, yeah, no, we have. We finished two weeks ago.” This means that the filming process for the series finale has officially ended.
However, Heughan added that there’s still some work left to do, as the season will require reshoots. He explained, “We shot our final episode—eight seasons, 101 episodes, 11 years, and I go back to work on Monday.
We have to do a bunch of pickups. So, yeah, it’s been a rollercoaster. We’re still a long way off. I am just here to promote season seven, part two.”
What Is The Update?
Although the final episode has been filmed, it seems like there is still some way to go before fans can see the last season. Heughan’s comments suggest that a release date for the eighth and final season might not be coming anytime soon.
But for now, fans can focus on the upcoming episodes of Season 7, part two, and what they can expect when the show returns next month.
When Outlander returns, viewers will see Claire and Jamie return to Scotland. They will visit family before heading back to America. However, as fans might expect, this visit will not be a simple one.
Jamie still has unresolved issues with his second wife, Laoighaire McKenzie (played by Nell Hudson), and this could lead to some tense moments.
Meanwhile, Claire will have to face difficult conversations with Jamie’s family as well. Throughout the series, whenever the Frasers reunite with family, it’s never easy, and this time looks no different.
In the meantime, across time and space, their daughter Bree (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) have their own challenges to face.
They are desperately trying to reunite after being separated, and Roger is on a mission to rescue their son Jem, who has been kidnapped. With their family scattered across different times, the stakes are high, and nothing ever seems to go as planned when you are a Fraser—or married to one.
The upcoming episodes are sure to be packed with the drama, romance, and adventure that Outlander fans have come to expect. But while the excitement of these episodes is building, there is also a bittersweet feeling as the series moves closer to its end.
Though Outlander will soon come to a close, fans can take some comfort in knowing that the story isn’t completely over. Starz has already announced a prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. This new show will aim to carry on the romance and drama that has made the original series so beloved.
Instead of following Jamie and Claire’s love story, the prequel will show the lives of their parents. The new series will give fans a chance to see what life was like for the people who raised Jamie and Claire and how their love stories unfolded.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is currently in production and is set to premiere sometime in 2025. In this new series, Claire’s parents will be played by Jeremy Irvine, who will take on the role of Henry Beauchamp, and Hermione Corfield, who will portray Julia Mortiston. On the other side of the family, Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, will be played by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater.
The prequel promises to give fans a new perspective on the Outlander universe while still delivering the romance, adventure, and drama that has made the original series such a hit. With Blood of My Blood on the horizon, Outlander fans will still have something to look forward to even after the main series ends.
For now, fans can prepare themselves for the final episodes of Season 7 and reflect on the journey of Jamie and Claire that has spanned over a decade. The show has left a lasting impact on its viewers, and the final season will undoubtedly bring even more emotional moments as the characters face the conclusion of their story.
Outlander Season 7 Part 2 will premiere on November 22, 2024, and promises to deliver more of the thrilling story that fans have come to love. For those who need a refresher or want to relive the earlier episodes, the first seven seasons of Outlander are available to watch on Starz.
As the end of the series approaches, fans can rest assured that there is still more to come, both with the final season and the upcoming prequel. So, while the “Droughtlander” is nearly over, the journey is far from finished.
