Only Hope is a manwha series about Eunhye Ju, who is married to Donjin Nam but uncovers a horrible mystery in the basement of his villa that causes her to rethink everything. When she discovers that her husband is a murderer, she can’t bring herself to accept it. The same day, their house is set on fire, and she is killed by a man disguised in a mask, but she ends up not dying but instead travels back nine years in time, where the first guy she meets is Donjin himself. Eunhye decides to reveal Donjin’s secret now so that the future may be avoided and she can discover the truth for herself.

The manwha begins with Eunhye and Donjin spending quality time together and going on dates, and everything in their relationship appears to be ideal until Eunhye discovers the videotape and is taken back in time. Eunhye visits Donjin as soon as she returns to the past and follows him around everywhere to find out if there is anything he has been hiding from her, and she also keeps an account of all the victims who went missing in the murder case to determine everything that happened and to maintain track.

She tells him the truth when he asks her the reason she was following him around everywhere that she got a prophetic dream in which she had seen him getting killed and also explains that she will regret it for her entire life if she doesn’t take care of him now and would blame herself for being the reason. This was the reason she wants to protect him.

Eunhye appoints a former police officer to investigate the victim that is supposed to go missing whose name is Park Minhyuk. She does all the necessary to make sure her “husband” (in the future) doesn’t turn into a murderer. A series of instances take place where Eunhye changes the past in a way by acting in a different way which her past self didn’t act, which changed the past completely. She was attacked in front of Minhyuk’s house once and started getting followed by unknown people when she was alone and a lot of other things. She kept a record of all the victims of the murder in a file which was later found out by Donjin and he asks her why she believes in such a dream. He also raises his voice at her saying that if she gets obsessed with the people that appeared in her dream, she herself would be the first one to get killed.

This makes Eunhye really suspicious because it seems as if Donjin knew everything all along and was it because Donjin had no other choice but to kill that man? The man that murdered other people too. Things take a really dark turn when Eunhye gets kidnapped and taken to an abandoned building by a pickpocketer who she and Donjin had encountered before only to find out that he was Minhyuk himself. Minhyuk threatens to kill Eunhye when Donjin comes to save her. He somehow manages to kill Minhyuk which makes Eunhye think it was all because of her that the past has changed so much now and that she has been the reason Donjin has to go through so many hurdles.

When she asks why did he go through so much to save her, we learn that when the villa caught on fire and Donjin somehow managed to escape it he met a woman who told him to save Eunhye and from that day on Donjin knew that the only way to keep her safe was to never have met her in the first place but still he ends up helping her the day he sees her for the first time in the past. He was shocked to see how could someone trust him so much and want to protect him at all costs.

Only Hope Chapter 18 Recap

This chapter starts off with Donjin’s brother asking him what was the matter with Eunhye because when his brother and mother barged into the room to check up on Donjin they saw Donjin on top of her which made them think he was in a relationship with her. Donjin clarifies with his brother that there is nothing of that sort and he was just helping her out because she was in a dangerous situation. His brother still keeps teasing him with Eunhye, and because of this they get into a friendly fight and are interrupted by Eunhye who comes to check up on Donjin and his brother leaves.

While they’re having a conversation Donjin asks Eunhye why is it that she wants to protect him so much and keep him safe to which she explains that if she wouldn’t do that he would die and she would regret it for her entire life. Donjin clears it out to Eunhye that he wants to take things slowly so they can get to know each other little by little to which she readily agrees.

The next sequence is, Eunhye finds her necklace in the bathroom which was soaked inside a mug full of water, and sees that it was kept by someone. We are shown a new scene that shows Donjin out in the villa finding Eunhye’s dead body and her necklace around her neck and some guards telling Donjin that she is already dead.

As to what we have seen in how the previous chapter ended we get a fair understanding that Eunhye died before she was transported back in the past and Donjin is also somehow related and knows something that we are not aware of. He has been told by an unfamiliar woman to save Eunhye and the only way he can do it is what he thinks is to stay away from her.

There are so many questions that we have, some of them being, Will Donjin agree that he likes Eunhye too? Will Eunhye find out how did Donjin become a murderer? These questions will possibly be answered in the next chapter.
