A New Osamu Dazai Anime
No Longer Allowed in Another World joins the group of media based on the literature icon Osamu Dazai, such as the famous Bungo Stray Dogs. With its debut in 2019, this manga series is ongoing, currently being published on Shogakukan’s web manga site, Yawaraka Spirits, and a ninth volume is expected to release on June 12.
Though none of the production crew and cast of the anime have been announced, we’re sure this anime is in great hands.
Hiroshi Noda, the author of the series, couldn’t contain his excitement when he heard about the anime adaptation. He expressed his satisfaction, saying that he was initially concerned about certain scenes, but the anime has turned it into an enjoyable experience without any issues. Having had the opportunity of visiting the recording sessions, Noda was deeply impressed by the passion of the production team and the cast. He eagerly anticipates the arrival of the anime and the embodiment of the expressive characters on screen.
Takahiro Wakamatsu, the manga illustrator, was pleasantly surprised and filled with joy upon hearing the news of the anime adaptation. He stressed his happiness as various decisions were made during the production process and commended the great efforts of the team. Wakamatsu patiently waits to see his illustrations in action and encourages viewers to explore both anime and manga to properly experience the series.
The Plot
Failing to commit suicide with his lover, Osamu Dazai is reincarnated in another world, and now, he wishes to find his lover and die with her. You might think that being reborn in a world with powers and cute girls would be the ultimate dream but not for our depressed literary figure.
Despite his constant attempts to put himself in harm’s way, fate seems to work against his desires, leaving him with no choice but to confront the lively and cheerful chaos that unfolds. Will this terminally depressed hero discover a newfound purpose in this cheery and bleak realm? This dark comedy isekai features a whimsical blend of comedy and sadness as our protagonist navigates the ways of his otherworldly existence, accompanied by cute girls.
As mentioned earlier, the manga is ongoing, so the announcement of the anime adaptation came as a surprise to many; some questioning why they even made it, as there are better manga series that deserve an anime adaptation. The switch from using suicide as a comedic element to using it as a saddening device is, no doubt, flawlessly executed. Regardless, the anime is already in the works and will debut sometime in 2024 though the exact date is unknown. Make sure you come back for updates!
