Nintendo Switch 2’s 2026 lineup is beginning to look far stronger than it did earlier in the year. While Nintendo initially leaned into smaller or more unusual releases, several games have now emerged as critical and commercial successes, while upcoming exclusives such as Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave could give the console an even bigger second-half surge.
Nintendo’s current momentum also comes as the Switch 2 continues to build a substantial software library. The company’s latest financial data reported 19.86 million Switch 2 hardware units sold as of March 31, 2026, alongside 48.71 million software sales.
Fire Emblem Could Be the Switch 2’s Biggest Exclusive Yet
The biggest change in Nintendo’s 2026 outlook is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Following Nintendo’s latest presentation, the strategy RPG appears considerably more ambitious than previously expected, with a September 17 release now scheduled exclusively for Switch 2. GamesRadar+ reports that the game will combine traditional tactical combat with new systems, multiple playable perspectives and a story involving four central characters and time manipulation.
That gives Nintendo a major first-party release heading into a crowded September. More importantly, Fortune’s Weave will arrive after Pokémon Pokopia and Splatoon Raiders, two games that have already strengthened the console’s 2026 software lineup.
Pokémon Pokopia has maintained its position among the year’s better-reviewed releases, while Splatoon Raiders has reportedly become an unexpected fan favorite. Together with Fire Emblem, they demonstrate that Nintendo’s strategy of exploring different genres may be producing a more diverse library than initially expected.
Nintendo also has several major releases waiting later in the year. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is among the announced Switch 2 projects, while FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods is another high-profile exclusive in development for the platform. The wider 2026 schedule also includes major third-party games, making the console’s appeal increasingly difficult to define around a single franchise.
The momentum extends beyond Switch 2-exclusive software. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has become a significant success despite launching as a Nintendo Switch title, surpassing 3.8 million units during its first two weeks. Nintendo also previously revealed that approximately 40% of its players were already using Switch 2.
With Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave approaching and more major games still scheduled for 2026, Nintendo’s second year of Switch 2 software could end up being substantially stronger than its early lineup suggested. Rather than relying solely on a traditional Mario or Zelda blockbuster, Nintendo is building momentum through a broader collection of critically recognized and commercially successful games.
