Nintendo’s revised Switch 2 console has appeared in Europe with a more accessible battery compartment, but a recent teardown has revealed that it still uses the existing display rather than the rumored Sharp LCD panel. The discovery disappoints players hoping for improvements to the handheld’s screen response times and image quality.
Technician Modyfikator Casper disassembled the updated console and examined its internal components. Although Nintendo has made changes to improve battery replacement, the teardown did not uncover the rumored 7.9-inch Sharp LCD display.
The current Switch 2 screen has drawn criticism for visible ghosting and smearing during gameplay. A display with faster pixel response times could help address these problems without requiring a complete transition to OLED technology.
Revised Switch 2 Hardware Offers Few Changes Beyond Battery Access
The teardown also revealed that the updated Switch 2 retains the same Nvidia system-on-chip and 12GB of RAM as the existing model. Although the revised motherboard uses memory from a different manufacturer, the hardware changes are unlikely to deliver a noticeable performance improvement. A redesigned fan could also affect cooling slightly, but its impact remains uncertain.

The more significant change is the redesigned battery compartment, which allows owners to replace the battery without first removing adhesive. This adjustment follows European right-to-repair requirements and should make maintenance easier.
The rumored Sharp LCD panel first attracted attention after the 7.9-inch component, identified as LS079T1SX10P, appeared on a Chinese marketplace. The leaked part reportedly supports 1920 × 1080 resolution, matching the existing screen, while its different circuitry suggested potentially faster pixel response times.
However, the latest teardown provides no evidence that Nintendo has adopted this panel in the revised console. The company has not confirmed when or whether the rumored display will appear in a future Switch 2 model. For now, buyers should not expect the updated hardware to resolve the screen’s reported ghosting issues.
