Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will become more expensive in South Korea later this year. In a new press release published by Nintendo Korea on June 29, the company announced that the console’s suggested retail price will increase from 648,000 won to 758,000 won starting September 1, 2026.

The move is part of Nintendo’s ongoing review of hardware pricing in response to changing global market conditions and follows similar price increases already announced for several other regions.

Nintendo Switch 2 Price in South Korea Will Rise on September 1

According to Nintendo Korea, the Nintendo Switch 2’s recommended retail price will increase by 110,000 won, representing a price hike of nearly 17%. The new pricing will officially take effect on September 1, 2026.

The company explained the decision in a brief statement, saying the adjustment comes after reviewing

“future global business feasibility in response to changes in various market environments.”

Nintendo also apologized to customers, stating:

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers and staff due to the price change. Please kindly understand.”

The announcement was made through Nintendo Korea’s official website.

The South Korean price revision is not an isolated decision. Earlier this year, Nintendo announced higher Switch 2 prices for Japan, the United States, Canada, and Europe, with most international markets also scheduled to receive their new pricing on September 1, 2026. Nintendo has consistently pointed to rising production costs and broader economic challenges as the primary reasons behind these adjustments.

During Nintendo’s May financial briefing, company president Shuntaro Furukawa explained that the business was facing sustained cost pressures from multiple directions. According to Nintendo’s official investor briefing, Furukawa said:

“Unfortunately, the recent surge in memory and other component prices, and the changes in the market environment, including trends in the foreign exchange market and the price of oil, are all factors that we anticipate will continue over the medium to long term.”

He added that maintaining the previous pricing structure would significantly hurt the profitability of Nintendo’s hardware business, making the increase necessary for the company’s long-term sustainability.

Strong Switch 2 Sales Despite Higher Prices

Despite introducing higher prices across several markets, Nintendo continues to enjoy strong demand for the Switch 2. The company reported that the console sold nearly 20 million units worldwide during the previous fiscal year, exceeding its original sales expectations.

Analysts believe Nintendo is hoping its growing software lineup and strong hardware momentum will offset any slowdown that could result from higher retail prices.

With South Korea now joining the list of regions affected by the pricing revision, consumers planning to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 may want to do so before September 1, when the higher suggested retail price officially takes effect.
