Nine Peaks, a new manga centered around delinquents, is making quite a buzz. It chronicles the story of Mashio Gaku, a deviant high school freshman who loses his father, Mashio Harumi, in a tragic accident. Four days before his father’s demise, Gaku gets suspended for thrashing an upperclassman who tried to bully him.
As he returns home, he meets with a minor altercation with his dad, and that’s the last conversation between them. At his dad’s wake, he learns that his old man was a well-known and cherished figure in his heydays- a surprising fact to Gaku.
He had assumed his father was a friendless individual. To add to his confusion, he realizes several men are shedding tears at his dad’s demise. He had held a perception that his dad was a forlorn loser. Gaku decides to get his mind off the overwhelming loss, and he decides to go fishing. It was an activity he often engaged in with his dad. While he reminisces about the moments spent with his dad, he falls into the water.
The story presents its first twist and transports Gaku to a different time. The year is 2000, and he is in Ooiri, South Yuga. The man who saves Gaku is none other than his father, albeit much younger. His rollercoaster ride has descended from its station to take him into the era of his dad, a well-respected and admired individual. His journey is one exciting one!
