It’s an exciting day for anime fans as Anime Expo 2026 gets underway. One of the event’s biggest highlights is the debut of Newtype Global, the first fully English edition of Japan’s iconic Monthly Newtype magazine.

The inaugural 2026 Summer Edition is available starting July 2 for $25 at KADOKAWA World Entertainment’s Booth SH-2720.
A 40-Year Legacy Reaches English Readers
Founded in 2023, Newtype Global was created to bring Monthly Newtype’s renowned anime coverage to a wider English-speaking audience. The iconic magazine has covered Japan’s anime industry for more than 40 years.
Today, Newtype Global publishes exclusive interviews and anime features through its website, community platforms like Reddit, and partnerships with Crunchyroll and Anime News Network. The new print edition builds on that foundation, giving fans a physical version of its editorial content.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Takes the Cover
The debut issue of Newtype Global puts Daemons of the Shadow Realm in the spotlight. Adapted by Bones Film from Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, the series follows twins Yuru and Asa, who are separated as children before discovering they are destined to command powerful supernatural beings known as Daemons.
The feature arrives just as the anime begins its second cour on July 4, following the first cour’s finale on June 27. The new episodes also introduce fresh opening and ending theme songs by Masanori Otoda and Kei Sugawara.
For its launch issue, Newtype Global includes exclusive cover artwork featuring Yuru and Asa, along with a bonus pinup. Readers can also expect interviews with director Masahiro Ando, members of the production staff, and the voice cast.
Ando is known for directing Sword of the Stranger and Blast of Tempest, while series composer Noboru Takagi previously worked on Golden Kamuy. Nobuhiro Arai, recognized for Bungo Stray Dogs, serves as the character designer and chief animation director. The Japanese cast includes Kensho Ono as Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as Asa, and Misaki Kuno as Gabu-chan.
Meanwhile, the original manga has continued to grow in popularity since its serialization in Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021. It has surpassed 3 million copies in circulation across print and digital editions and is available in English through Square Enix Books, with a French edition published by Kurokawa.
Inside the Debut Issue: Studio Features and a KADOKAWA Roundtable
Beyond the cover story, Newtype Global also features in-depth profiles of five leading anime studios: BONES Film, MAPPA, CloverWorks, Science SARU, and Orange. Through interviews with creators, the magazine explores how these studios are shaping the present and future of anime.
The issue also includes a special roundtable celebrating the 10th anniversaries of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, KONOSUBA -God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, and Bungo Stray Dogs. Producers from each franchise discuss their creative process and reflect on the series’ lasting popularity.
In addition, readers will find interviews with the staff behind more than a dozen upcoming anime, along with a preview of the Summer 2026 anime season and the magazine’s editorial recommendations.
Newtype Global Includes an Anime Expo-Exclusive Poster
One of the biggest attractions for fans is the Anime Expo-exclusive Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- poster included with the magazine while supplies last. Available only at the convention, the limited-edition bonus adds extra value to Newtype Global’s debut issue.
Priced at $25, the 2026 Summer Edition combines exclusive editorial content with a collectible item, making it a standout release for attendees.
Newtype Global 2026 Summer Edition is available from July 2 to July 5 at KADOKAWA World Entertainment, Inc. Booth SH-2720 during Anime Expo 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
