Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), Héctor (Gael García Bernal), and their friends and family are getting their long-awaited spot in Disney theme parks. At the 2024 D23 event, Disney revealed that the first-ever attraction themed around Pixar’s “Coco” is coming to Disney’s California Adventure in Disneyland California.
This announcement was made during Disney’s Experiences Showcase, where they introduced various new updates for Disney parks worldwide.
While details about the new ride are limited, the concept art provides some clues about what to expect from this “Coco” attraction. The ride vehicle suggests it will be a water-themed boat ride, taking guests on a grand musical journey through the Land of the Dead.
Fans will likely encounter several familiar characters from the beloved Pixar film during the ride. The announcement was highlighted by a performance from the mischievous Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt), hinting that this character may appear in the attraction.
The Animated Classic “Coco” Has Been Modernized
This news follows another announcement of a new boat ride at Disney’s California Adventure, themed after the popular Avatar series, specifically “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
This ride will be part of a larger Avatar-themed area, offering guests a chance to experience Pandora’s vibrant environment like never before. Additionally, Disney shared updates about “Avengers Campus,” which will feature two new rides: Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.
Since its release in 2017, “Coco” has become a modern animated classic, earning nearly a billion dollars globally. The film tells the touching story of Miguel, a young boy with dreams of becoming a famous musician despite his family’s dislike of music.
When Miguel plays the guitar of the legendary singer Ernesto de la Cruz, he is transported to the Land of the Dead. With help from the kind-hearted scoundrel Héctor, Miguel must find a way back home or face being stuck in the Land of the Dead forever.
“Coco” is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
