Some slasher films are just not the same without the main protagonist. In the case of Scream, the slasher cult classic by Wes Craven, it won’t be the same without Neve Campbell. That’s right. Neve Campbell won’t be in Scream 6 because the studio behind the movie is lowballing her.

Since 1996, the Canadian actress played Sidney Prescott, the heroine who survived the murderous and relentless attacks of Ghostface. Twenty-five years later, with a great career behind her back, the studio won’t pay Campbell what she thinks she deserves for her role in the sixth installment of the film. Read our scoop below.

Neve Campbell Won’t Be In Scream 6

The “Scream” flicks, created by horror master Wes Craven, may not have had the biggest box office returns, but they’ve surely done enough to produce five films, and more are on the way. When Spyglass Media chose to relaunch the satirical slasher genre with “Scream 5,” there was skepticism until the picture made an incredible amount of money at the pandemic-era box office, grossing $140 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. As a result, “Scream 6” will be released in the near future. However, it does not appear that Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott will be in the sixth edition.

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass films planned a sixth Scream film after a great fifth film debuting earlier in 2022. But for Campbell, exiting the franchise and quitting the part she carried on for a quarter of a century was no easy feat. Furthermore, the now Campbell-less sequel script penned by Guy Busic and James Vanderbilt will have either write her out or recast her part.

Jenna Ortega Will Be In Scream 6

While Campbell is out, the next Ghostface survivor, Jenna Ortega, is confirmed in the movie, and she commented to the press that the next installment promises a lot of gore. If Scream characterized stabbing violence, then the aggressiveness will be upped and incremental for the sixth film. Still, can you picture this film without Neve Campbell?

Furthermore, Scream 6 is already in production, and the film is poised to premiere on March 23, 2023. Also, Jenna Ortega will play Tara Carpenter. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers, and Dermot Mulroney will have an unnamed role. Mason Gooding plays Chad Meeks-Martin, Melissa Barrera plays Sam Carpenter, Jasmin Savoy Brown plays Mindy Meeks-Marin, and Hayden Panettiere will play Kirby Reed.

What Is A Slasher Film?

Slasher films are a popular genre because they are designed to scare and create suspense. They usually have a few key elements that make them stand out from other genres. Firstly, they tend to have a higher body count than other types of films. Secondly, the killer is usually someone who is masked or otherwise disguised, which makes them more mysterious and scary. Finally, slasher films often have a clever plot twist that keeps viewers guessing until the very end. All of these factors combine to make slasher films highly entertaining and popular with audiences.

Why Was Scream So Popular?

Initially released in 1996, Scream was directed by Wes Craven out of a script written by Kevin Williamson. The film starred Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan, and Drew Barrymore. And it ushered in a golden era for slasher films. After that, franchises like Final Destination, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and others brought upon us countless hours of entertainment.

Scream combined black comedy elements and the “whodunit” mystery aspects of detective work with the utterly graphic violence of slasher films. Moreover, it was done in a way that only a master of cinematography in the director’s seat like Wes Craven could’ve done it. And most importantly, this film catapulted a young Neve Campbell into stardom. With this, we conclude our coverage of Scream 6. Thanks for reading our article.
