Netflix has reminded fans that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is approaching, but the timing led to an unexpected wave of jokes. With several alleged gameplay clips from the highly anticipated Rockstar Games title already circulating online, players joked that they have been getting an “extended look” at GTA 6 without waiting for the official presentation.
The official presentation is scheduled to premiere on August 27, with Netflix subscribers receiving first access before the video later arrives on Rockstar Games’ official channels. Netflix and Rockstar Games confirmed the unusual partnership earlier this month.
Netflix’s promotional reminder was quickly flooded with memes referencing the recent alleged GTA 6 gameplay leaks. Fans joked that after watching footage circulating across social media, the official event was no longer their first extended look at Rockstar’s next open-world game.
Recent clips allegedly showing gameplay, characters and parts of Leonida have spread online, although Rockstar has not publicly detailed the authenticity of every clip. Several reports have covered the footage and Rockstar’s efforts to remove unauthorized material.
The official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is still expected to draw enormous attention. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the presentation will premiere on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27 before arriving on YouTube and the official GTA 6 website six hours later.
