CD Projekt Red has become increasingly open to collaborations with other major franchises, but the studio still has a clear reason for avoiding similar crossover content inside The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. According to level design lead Miles Tost, the priority is making sure players receive the same complete game regardless of where they purchase it.
The explanation came during BlizzCon 2026, where CD Projekt Red and Blizzard highlighted their new partnership. The collaboration includes a Geralt-inspired Barbarian skin for Diablo IV, while Cyberpunk: Edgerunners content is also coming to Overwatch in 2027. CD Projekt Red officially confirmed the partnership and upcoming crossover content in September.
CD Projekt Red Wants Content Parity Across Platforms
Tost was asked why The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered does not offer Diablo-themed content despite arriving on Blizzard’s Battle.net platform. He explained that CD Projekt Red has traditionally avoided making digital content exclusive to a particular storefront.
“One thing we really value is to not have content that is purely exclusive depending on where you buy,”
Tost said, according to Factioz.
The developer’s approach means a player buying the same game on PC, console, or another storefront should receive the same core content. CD Projekt Red has previously used physical promotional items when partners require something exclusive.
Tost pointed to The Witcher 3’s Xbox pre-order bonus, which included an exclusive set of cards, as an example. Rather than locking gameplay content behind a particular retailer or platform, the studio can provide physical merchandise without changing what players receive inside the game.

Interestingly, Tost did not completely rule out the possibility of external crossover content eventually appearing in a CD Projekt Red game. When asked whether the studio had considered adding Diablo-themed content to The Witcher, he admitted,
“we haven’t really thought about this yet.”
That leaves the door open, particularly as CD Projekt Red evaluates the response to its growing partnership with Blizzard. The company’s official announcements describe the current collaboration as extending beyond simply bringing The Witcher 3 to Battle.net, with more crossover content planned for Diablo IV.
Tost also stressed that CD Projekt Red remains willing to reconsider its approach. The studio will pay attention to player reactions before deciding whether similar collaborations could work within its own games.
For now, that means fans should expect to see The Witcher and Cyberpunk characters entering other games, rather than Diablo or other outside franchises appearing directly inside CD Projekt Red’s major RPGs.
