Although some people do not like sequels, there is definitely an audience for them. Several titles have shown this repeatedly. This week, a sequel has become a big hit on the Netflix chart. This proves that a huge title is not needed to get many viewers.
Stephen Lang, known from the Avatar franchise, stars in the horror-thriller Don’t Breathe 2. Despite its 43% Rotten Tomatoes score, the movie is among the top 10 most-watched titles on Netflix this week.
In this movie, Lang returns as “the Blind Man,” a former U.S. Navy SEAL who lost his sight after getting hit by shrapnel. The story is about Norman Nordstrom (Lang) trying to live a peaceful life, but he is soon forced into action when his home gets unexpected visitors.
In Just A Few Days, Don’t Breathe 2 Received Over 3 Million Views
The more the criminals talk, the more it seems like the home invasion is not random, and they seem to know a lot about Nordstrom’s past. Are they seeking revenge? Do they want something he might have? Netflix subscribers were eager to find out.
Don’t Breathe 2 is the sequel to the successful Don’t Breathe, a 2016 movie made with less than $10 million and earning over $150 million at the box office. While the sequel did not have the same impact as the original, it still attracted a good audience.
The $53 million it made in theaters suggests that viewers were willing to wait for its streaming release, and its success on Netflix shows this.
Even though Don’t Breathe 2 was released in 2021, it quickly reached #8 among the most-watched titles on Netflix when it first appeared. It gained 3.2 million views from subscribers.
Many of these views may come from fans watching it again, but it shows the movie’s continued importance to its audience. A third movie is already being made.
Besides Lang, the Don’t Breathe franchise includes some big names. The first movie was produced by horror expert Sam Raimi and was written and directed by Fede Álvarez, who also made Evil Dead and is working on Alien: Romulus. Álvarez co-wrote the script for Don’t Breathe 2 with Rodo Sayagues, who directed the sequel.
