Netflix has abruptly canceled the show KAOS, which stars Jeff Goldblum. This cancellation is not surprising for the streaming service. The news came about a month after the show was released in late August. KAOS was created by Charlie Covell, who also worked on The End of the F*ing World.
The series offered a darkly funny and fresh take on Greek mythology. No reason was given for the cancellation, but it often relates to the number of viewers. Despite this, Covell has finally shared his thoughts about the show’s ending.
On the production company Sister’s Instagram, Covell said they feel “gutted not to be making more Kaos, but I don’t want this news to overshadow what we did make.”
He also expressed hope that “people still continue to discover and enjoy the show.” He praised the cast and crew, saying it was a “privilege” to work with them.
Covell also reached out to the fans, saying, “I reckon there are some potential fans out there who might need more time to find it, so please keep talking about Kaos if you enjoyed it.”
He added, “I’ve been shown subreddits that have made my heart positively sing: the tiny details and Easter eggs you noticed made my day many times over.”
Charlie Covell had a plan for three seasons of KAOS
The show tells the story of Zeus, the powerful yet insecure Greek god. He worries about a prophecy that says his rule will end. Prometheus, who is stuck on a cliff for going against Zeus’ rule, has a plan to overthrow him. He uses the prophecy and some destined humans to carry out his scheme. Covell had mentioned plans for a second season.
“There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team. It was a bit of a dream come true.”
The cast includes David Thewlis as Hades, Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Misia Butler as Caneus, Leila Farzad as Ari, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, and Stanley Townsend as Minos. Billie Piper and Eddie Izzard also make cameo appearances.
