The popular isekai fantasy light novel series “My Status as an Assassin Exceeds the Hero’s” by Matsuri Akai is making its way to the small screen. The anime adaptation, scheduled to debut in October 2025, was announced today with a teaser trailer and visual. The news excited fans, marking the next chapter for this growing series.
The original story centers on Akira Oda, an ordinary boy who gets transported to a fantasy world, where he unexpectedly becomes an assassin. His journey to uncover royal conspiracies, accompanied by a royal elf, promises thrilling battles and a deep the kingdom’s secrets. Now, with the anime adaptation in the works, fans are eager to see how this unique tale unfolds.
Sunrise, the studio responsible for producing the series, revealed the anime’s directorial leadership. Nobuyoshi Habara, known for his work on the Fafner series, will direct the anime. The series composition will be handled by Kunihiko Okada, a notable writer for Yowamushi Pedal. Meanwhile, character designer Hirona Okada, known for Gundam Build Metaverse, will give the characters a fresh look.
The anime will also feature a talented voice cast. Takeo Otsuka, who voiced Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries, will bring to life the protagonist Akira Oda. Alongside him, Saku Mizuno, recognized for her role as Ryo Yamada in BOCCHI THE ROCK!, will voice Amelia Rosequartz, the elven girl who joins Akira on his mission. Both voice actors shared their excitement for the project and expressed their eagerness for fans to experience the anime.
In addition to the announcement, Tozai, the illustrator of the original novel, and Hiroyuki Aigamo, who illustrated the manga adaptation, both posted special celebratory illustrations. “My Status as an Assassin Exceeds the Hero’s” began serialization in January 2017 on the user-driven platform Shousetsuka ni Narou. Overlap officially published the novel in November 2017, with four volumes currently available in Japan. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Hiroyuki Aigamo, began in 2018 and has six volumes released as of February 2025.
The series has amassed a total circulation of over 1.5 million copies, combining both print and digital formats. Seven Seas Entertainment holds an English license for both the novel and manga. The plot follows Akira Oda, who gains incredible assassin abilities after being summoned to a fantasy world.
