Capcom is preparing to bring Monster Hunter Wilds to more players on Nintendo Switch 2 with a free Prologue demo launching on October 19 in North America and October 20 in Europe. The demo will let players experience the opening portion of the action RPG before deciding whether to continue their journey in the full game.

The demo will support local multiplayer, allowing players to hunt monsters together. Capcom has also confirmed that players can carry their demo save data into the full version, making it easier to continue their progress without restarting the adventure.

The release gives Switch 2 owners an opportunity to try the game’s hunting mechanics and explore its distinctive environments before committing to the full experience.

EXPLORE THE FORBIDDEN LANDS IN MONSTER HUNTER WILDS

Monster Hunter Wilds follows a Guild expedition into the Forbidden Lands, an unexplored region connected to the story of a young boy named Nata. After Nata escapes a mysterious monster that attacks his village, the Guild sends an expedition to investigate the threat and learn more about the region.

The game features environments that change dramatically as weather conditions shift. During harsh periods known as Fallow and Inclemency, dangerous monsters become more aggressive and hunt in packs. The Plenty period, by contrast, brings abundant wildlife and different opportunities for exploration.

Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay showcases the Forbidden Lands and its changing environments.

These changing conditions affect how players approach each hunt. Hunters must study monster behavior, adapt their tactics, and gather materials from defeated creatures to craft stronger weapons and armor.

The Prologue demo will be available through the Nintendo eShop, giving players a chance to test the Nintendo Switch 2 version before its full release on December 4, 2026. However, the demo supports local multiplayer rather than online multiplayer. Players should keep this distinction in mind when planning to play with friends.

Nintendo’s official game listing confirms that the Switch 2 release will also support local wireless and online multiplayer in the full game. The upcoming version includes the content and updates that have already been released on other platforms, making it a substantial release for the console.

The free demo is an opportunity for players to sample the opening story, try the hunting system, and decide whether to pick up the full game when it launches.
