Monster Hunter Wilds is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with Capcom confirming a December 4, 2026 release date during Nintendo’s latest Direct. The announcement finally gives Switch 2 owners a firm launch window for one of Capcom’s biggest recent games.
The Switch 2 version will also arrive with all updates previously released on other platforms, meaning players will not be starting with an outdated version of the game. Capcom has additionally confirmed local play, giving Switch 2 players another way to experience its monster-hunting gameplay.
Monster Hunter Wilds Brings Its Living World to Switch 2
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players join an expedition into the mysterious Forbidden Lands after a young boy named Nata is rescued near the region’s border. His account of a monster attacking his village leads the Guild to investigate the unexplored territory and uncover the secrets surrounding its inhabitants.
The Forbidden Lands are designed around constantly changing conditions. Weather can shift rapidly, transforming the environment and influencing which creatures appear. During the dangerous Fallow and Inclemency periods, monsters can become more aggressive and hunt in packs, while the Plenty periods provide richer wildlife and resources.
That dynamic environment also affects how players approach hunts. The monsters themselves have adapted to the changing conditions, meaning hunters must observe their surroundings and adjust their tactics rather than relying on a single strategy.

Capcom is retaining the series’ 14 weapon types, ranging from the Great Sword and Long Sword to the Gunlance, Bow and other familiar choices. Players can use materials collected from defeated monsters to craft new weapons and armor, making preparation and equipment progression central to the experience.
The Switch 2 release also includes the game’s previously introduced content updates, allowing newcomers to access the expanded experience from launch. Local play is another significant addition for Nintendo’s hybrid console, giving players an option to experience the hunt together through supported local gameplay.
Capcom describes Monster Hunter Wilds as a story about humans and monsters attempting to survive in a world shaped by constant environmental change. The Switch 2 version will bring that experience to Nintendo’s newer hardware on December 4, 2026.
The release was announced during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, with Capcom also showcasing the Switch 2 version in a new trailer.
