Bethesda Game Studios has reassured fans that the recent Xbox layoffs have not impacted development of The Elder Scrolls 6, while also confirming that it hasn’t abandoned The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The update comes after Microsoft announced thousands of job cuts across its gaming division, leading to widespread concerns about the future of Bethesda’s major projects.

Responding to questions from YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Bethesda addressed speculation surrounding several of its upcoming games, including The Elder Scrolls 6, Oblivion Remastered, and the studio’s approach to communicating with its community.

Bethesda says The Elder Scrolls 6 is still on track

Bethesda stated that the recent layoffs have not altered its long-term plans for the next Elder Scrolls game.

“The roadmap [for TES6] is unaffected.”

Although the developer did not provide additional details about the highly anticipated RPG, the statement is the clearest confirmation yet that development continues as planned despite organizational changes within Xbox.

The reassurance follows Microsoft’s recent workforce reductions, which affected multiple Xbox studios and prompted concerns over ongoing first-party projects.

Bethesda also confirmed that Oblivion Remastered remains an active project. The team is currently focused on the game’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release, but revealed that performance improvements created for the new version may also arrive on existing platforms.

According to the studio, the Switch 2 edition includes optimizations that it

“hope[s] to bring to console/PC,”

suggesting that players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC could benefit from future patches after the handheld version launches.

The remaster received multiple updates shortly after its release but has since seen relatively few improvements, leaving many players hoping for additional bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Bethesda also explained that its recent roadmap announcements were part of a broader effort to improve communication with fans rather than a response to pressure from Xbox leadership.

“Look, we read the internet too.”

The studio added that it wanted to present a clearer picture of everything currently in development because individual announcements often became disconnected from its overall plans. Alongside previously confirmed Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters and an upcoming Fallout project with Obsidian Entertainment, Bethesda says it intends to be more transparent about future development updates.
