Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine announced that the anime film “Gekijōban Mononoke: Karakasa” will be adapted into a manga series on the Comic Days service starting May 26, with the first volume slated for release on July 23.
The manga adaptation, drawn by the film’s character designer, Kitsuneko Nagata, is expected to span two or three volumes.
Scheduled for release in Japan on July 26, the film was initially delayed from its planned debut last year. Alongside this announcement, it was revealed that Hiroshi Kamiya would voice the protagonist, the Medicine Seller, replacing Takahiro Sakurai.
Kenji Nakamura will direct the film, produced by Twin Engine, with a team that includes animation production by EOTA and character design by Kitsuneko Nagata.
The “Mononoke” anime, which debuted in 2007, is a spinoff of the “Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales” series and features five arcs, including the “Bakeneko” arc followed by the medicine seller.
Directed by Kenji Nakamura and produced by Toei Animation, the series previously aired on Crunchyroll and is currently available on streaming platforms like The Roku Channel and Netflix. Yasuharu Takanashi composed the music, and New Video Group released the series on DVD in North America in 2014.
