Blizzard Addresses Overwatch Performance Issues on Switch 2

Blizzard Entertainment has responded to growing concerns over performance issues affecting Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that a fix is already in development. The acknowledgment follows player reports that the game is not meeting expected performance targets on the new hardware.

Shortly after launch, users began highlighting problems related to frame rate stability. Although the Switch 2 version was expected to run at up to 60 frames per second, many players reported that the game appears to be locked closer to 30 FPS. This discrepancy has had a noticeable impact on gameplay, particularly in a fast-paced multiplayer environment where responsiveness and fluidity are critical.

Blizzard addressed the issue directly, stating: “We are aware of an issue with the FPS limit on the Nintendo Switch 2 being lower than intended. We are working on a patch to resolve this issue.” The statement confirms that the current performance limitations are not by design, but rather the result of a technical issue that the development team is actively working to correct.

Beyond frame rate concerns, some players have also reported additional performance inconsistencies, including reduced visual clarity and occasional instability during matches. These issues have led to comparisons with the original Switch version, with some users noting that the new release does not consistently deliver the expected upgrade in performance.

The timing of these problems has added to player frustration. The Switch 2 version launched alongside new seasonal content, raising expectations for a smoother and more refined experience. Instead, early adopters have encountered technical limitations that undermine the intended improvements.

Blizzard has indicated that a patch is expected in the near future, with the goal of restoring performance closer to the intended 60 FPS target. While no exact release date has been confirmed, the developer suggested that the fix could arrive within days rather than weeks.

The situation underscores the broader challenge of optimizing live-service titles for new hardware. Even with more powerful systems, achieving stable performance requires careful tuning, particularly for games like Overwatch, where frame rate consistency directly impacts gameplay quality.

For now, the Switch 2 version remains functional but does not fully meet expectations set prior to launch. If the upcoming patch resolves the performance issues as planned, the game should align more closely with its intended experience. Until then, players are left waiting for improvements that bring the title in line with its advertised capabilities.
