In Ad Stella 110, the Vanadis Institute developed a man-machine system called GUND that would advance human exploration of space. When it was discovered that it had been used to formulate Mobile Suits using the GUND Format after Ochs Earth acquired the company.
Of the damage it caused to its subjects, the Mobile Suit Development Council Front banned the development of the GUND-based technology permanently, destroying the satellite research facility Fólkvangr and killing everyone inside. Among the survivors were Mobile Suit pilot Elnora Samaya’s daughter Ericht and the prototype GUNDAM.
In Ad Stella 122, twelve years after the incident, in a solar system with significant socioeconomic differences between “Spaceians” and “Earthians”, Ericht—now known as Suletta Mercury—transfers to the Benefits Group’s Asticassia School of Technology.
After arriving at the institute, she encounters Miorine Rembran, a girl escaping from the institute who wants to oppose her father’s Darwinian views. The Gundam Aerial, a Mobile Suit that utilizes the forbidden GUND Format technology, and Suletta cross paths within the academy with different ambitions and goals.

A major faction that gets the spotlight first is the Earthian house, which Suletta quickly befriends. In this school setting, the kids aren’t so firmly attached to their allegiances that they’ll refuse friendship with people in the out-group, despite it being a microcosm for the political conflicts in the world.
Despite Prospera’s ambitions in the previous episodes, nobody is considering Suletta’s growing ties with the Earthians as a broader alliance between Earth and Mercury at this point. In this episode, Mobile Suits mostly walk around the school grounds and trip over landmines while taking regular school exams. When Mobile Suits are used for tasks other than combat, it’s fascinating to watch.
Honestly, I was disappointed by how quickly Jeturk’s proposal was dismissed at the beginning of the episode. In addition to taking it back, he continues to act stubborn and proud in the following scenes, only slightly mellowing. It makes his proposal seem weightless in retrospect, even though I wasn’t expecting him to do a one-eighty.
