After Dwayne Johnson announced the movie, fans hoped to know more about the Moana Live-Action Remake release date. This a huge news for all the Disney movie fans who love watching the live and action version of their favorite films from the franchise. Previously, we have seen remakes of princess films such as Cinderella, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast. To have a Moana movie will be yet another cherry on top.
The news was revealed to the media and fans back on the 3rd of April by Dwayne Johnson. He was living at the Disney shareholders meeting on the date. While discussing his experiences, the actor shared that they will bring Moana to real life with a remake. The story will be on the big screen again but in another format.
Also, The Rock talked about how he will partner with Disney for the project and bring it all to life. The story will be told through a lively musical as well as dance. Dwayne talked about how the new project will reflect the culture of the Polynesian people at best. He made all of these announcements through his official Twitter handle.
Dwayne Johnson Announces Moana Live-Action Remake
Moana was released by Disney Studios in 2016, and it was a huge success for the production. It hit over 680 million dollars at the worldwide box office. With this announcement made by Dwayne Johnson, it is obvious that he will also star in the movie himself. Nothing else is confirmed about the rest of the cast or who will do the titular role of Moana herself.
It was Auli’i Cravalho who voiced her character in the animated film. Given that we can already expect Dwayne to do his role as Maui just like he did in the animated film, we might see Auli’i, but the creators have not confirmed anything about it yet.
Talking about the same project that he will share with Disney, the actor talked about how this is a truly good moment for him, and he is humbled and gracious by the news. He is especially proud of the fact that the film is going to depict the real culture to which he belongs.
The Rock is excited to showcase the people and how they are graceful yet strong warriors with a lot of strength within them. He also revealed that the character of Maui is inspired in the films by the mana and the spirit of his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia. The Rock expressed his gratitude through a social media post on his Twitter handle.
Humbled to say we’re bringing #MOANA’s beautiful story to the live action big screen!#MAUI changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honored to partner with @DisneyStudios to tell our story thru the realm of music & dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people🪝 pic.twitter.com/CxJFKQewUS

Moana Live-Action Remake Release Date
Disney has not yet announced the Moana Live-Action Remake’s release date. Although, we can expect the same to drop out anytime in 2024 or 2025. If the production runs smoothly and every process goes well, and we get lucky, the film might even release as early as the spring of 2024.
The plot of the film is set on a Polynesian island called Motunui. The people who live here worship Te Fiti, the goddess of nature. The story tells us about the pounamu stone, used by the goddess all those years ago to bring life to the ocean. It was how she used to drive her power.
Although, here comes Maui. He is a trickster and a demigod who was able to steal this heart to give humans the power of creation as well. Maii is a demigod who can also shape-shift with ease. The story starts when Te Fiti loses all her power because she no longer has the stone. As for Maui, who had the stone, he was attacked by Te Kā, the antagonist in this story.
He is the volcanic demon living on the shore and removing the stone from Maui. We understand that Maui loses the stone himself along with his magical giant fishhook, which is now lost at sea. The story begins a thousand years later when Moana is born. The ocean chooses her to bring back the heart to Te Fiti so that everything can fall back into place. Seeing the actors work with oceanic themes in the live-action film would be pretty interesting.
