A new Mario Kart World datamine may have uncovered several characters that did not make it into the final game. The discovery includes familiar enemies such as Chain Chomp, Blooper and Thwomp, alongside other potential drivers that could have expanded the Nintendo Switch 2 racing game’s already substantial roster.
The names were found in game files associated with character weight statistics. The discovery was shared on X by Rimea, following an initial find by dataminer MondoMega.
The files reportedly include entries for Bird, Banana, Blooper, Chain Chomp, Fuzzy, Goomba twins, Ninji, Spiny and Thwomp. The Goomba reference may point to Goomba Tower, a stack of Goombas that appears in other Mario games. Spiny, known as Togezo in Japanese, was also reportedly identified as a driver in multiple files.

These findings suggest that Nintendo may have considered additional characters during development. However, their presence in game data does not confirm that every character was planned for release or fully developed as a playable driver.
Although the discovery appears credible, datamined files do not confirm that these characters will become playable through a future update or downloadable content. Nintendo has not announced plans to add any of the listed drivers. The findings also come amid reports of fake Mario Kart World leaks, making it important to distinguish unused game data from official announcements.
Mario Kart World is available worldwide on Nintendo Switch 2 and already features one of the largest character rosters in the franchise. Whether Nintendo revisits these unused character references remains unclear, but the discovery gives fans another reason to speculate about the game’s development and potential future content.
