The sequel to the hit Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received some disappointing news from one of its stars. Awkwafina, who is promoting her new movie Jackpot! with John Cena, talked about the sequel to Shang-Chi. She said, “I have not.
I haven’t [heard anything], but those were exciting announcements at Comic-Con,” when asked if she knew anything new from Marvel Studios.
It’s common for Marvel actors to keep secrets like Andrew Garfield and Dafne Keen did about Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, recent MCU updates suggest Awkwafina is likely telling the truth.
Marvel’s “Avengers 5” is taking a different turn
The first Shang-Chi movie had a post-credit scene with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. They tried to help Shang-Chi understand what his rings were signaling.
Many fans thought the rings might be linked to Kang the Conqueror, as they look similar to his Time Chair in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
Marvel is now changing its direction for Avengers 5. Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was originally set to direct Avengers 5, which was named Kang Dynasty. This added to the idea that the rings could be connected to Kang.
But since Kang is no longer the planned villain and Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Victor Von Doom, Shang-Chi 2 may be undergoing major script changes to fit into the new storyline.
The first Shang-Chi movie earned over $400 million worldwide and received great reviews, so a sequel is very likely, though its release date is still unknown.
There is no official announcement yet about the Shang-Chi sequel. Keep an eye on Otakukart for more Marvel news and watch the first Shang-Chi movie exclusively on Disney+.
