Lily-Rose Depp, one of Hollywood’s rising stars, is determined to preserve her privacy despite the growing attention surrounding her. At 25, she has made waves in projects like Nosferatu and The Idol, yet she strives to keep certain aspects of her life private. In a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph, she emphasized the importance of protecting personal boundaries in the face of fame.
She acknowledges that fame is part of her career, but it comes with its challenges. “Every job comes with a set of circumstances and this [fame] is kind of one of them,” she shared. The actress revealed that her priority is to maintain a sense of privacy and groundedness, which she believes is crucial to retaining what truly belongs to her.
As the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose made her film debut in Tusk (2014) but gained more recognition after starring in The Idol alongside The Weeknd in 2023. While her career has skyrocketed, she has become more aware of the downsides of fame. “People are interested in things that they shouldn’t necessarily be interested in,” she admitted.
The actress explained that her job requires her to immerse herself in characters, which involves maintaining some anonymity. She noted, “The job of an actor is to go into a character and, like, melt into it… to protect a sense of anonymity.” She believes this is important to ensure that audiences see her as the character, not as herself, which ultimately helps in making her performances more convincing.
In the interview, Lily-Rose also discussed how she selects her roles. She revealed that her decisions are guided by where she is in life at the time. “I’ve always been interested in taking on roles that feel quite different from each other,” she explained, adding that each new role is a challenge to look into a different world and experience.
While The Idol received mixed reviews and was canceled after one season, Lily-Rose has defended her portrayal in the show. In a conversation with Vanity Fair, she expressed confidence in her work, acknowledging that some people may not have liked the series. “We always knew some people were not going to like it and that it was going to be too much for some people. But I stand by it,” she said.
Apart from The Idol, Lily-Rose has appeared in Yoga Hosers (2016), Planetarium (2016), and Silent Night (2021). She revealed that her role in Nosferatu posed significant challenges, especially dealing with imposter syndrome. “Why am I here and why do these people think that I can do this?” she recalled questioning herself. However, she eventually gained confidence in her abilities, understanding that humility is essential in this industry. “I always want to feel like I’m just starting out and like I still have so much to learn,” she shared, maintaining a mindset of growth and humility.
