LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Passes $165 Million in Revenue After Selling 2.3 Million Copies

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has sold approximately 2.3 million copies and generated more than $165 million in gross revenue, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics. The figures place the superhero game among the most commercially successful releases based on a non-gaming entertainment property in 2026.

PlayStation has been particularly important to the game’s performance, accounting for roughly $100 million, or about 60% of its estimated revenue. The remaining revenue comes from its PC and other platform releases, giving the LEGO Batman title a strong performance across the broader market.

The game’s sales are especially notable because it does not need to compete directly with the scale of major AAA superhero releases to become a significant commercial success. Instead, its combination of the Batman brand, LEGO’s family-friendly identity and accessible gameplay has allowed it to reach audiences that extend beyond traditional DC fans.

LEGO Batman Is Reaching a Broad Gaming Audience

Alinea’s player data also provides insight into who is buying LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. On PlayStation, 78% of players have previously played Fortnite, while the same percentage have played a Spider-Man game.

Other major games also show substantial overlap. Around 76% of LEGO Batman players have played GTA 5, while 70% have played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, 68% have played Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and 64% have played Minecraft.

The figures suggest that the game’s audience is not limited to players specifically seeking LEGO or Batman experiences. Instead, it appears to be attracting a broad group of players familiar with major multiplayer, superhero and family-oriented games.

The PlayStation ecosystem has also provided an opportunity for players to try the game before buying. Alinea estimates that more than 100,000 PlayStation Plus Premium members accessed a free trial, with approximately 3.1% converting into buyers.

Another Major Success for Non-Game Entertainment IP

LEGO Batman is part of a much larger trend in 2026, with games based on movies, television franchises and other entertainment properties generating more than $900 million in combined revenue, according to Alinea’s estimates.

The biggest performer is 007 First Light, which has generated an estimated $309.8 million and surpassed 4.5 million copies sold. LEGO Batman follows with its $165 million-plus revenue figure, while Wolverine has generated nearly $150 million on PS5 alone.

These results demonstrate that successful adaptations do not necessarily need to become billion-dollar blockbusters. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight shows how a recognizable IP can achieve substantial commercial success by targeting a specific audience while still reaching millions of players.
