If you geek out on historical dramas of any kind – Korean, Indian, Chinese, or otherwise – you’ve definitely heard of (and binged) Kuruluş: Osman. The historical Turkish drama created waves on the release of its first season, becoming not just a mega-hit in Turkey but in several parts of Asia – in Algeria and, surprisingly, in Pakistan as well.
With such a strong fan following behind the production, many will be pleased to know that Kuruluş: Osman has been officially renewed for its fifth season!
Kuruluş: Osman Season 5 Episode 1 has been much-awaited ever since season four left viewers on a cliffhanger of sorts, with strained relations between the characters and a tense environment not going unnoticed in the show.
With much pomp and splendor for the welcome of the new season, it is safe to say that the previous four seasons absolutely did not disappoint but rather were a perfect example of an all-around wonderful production.
Kuruluş: Osman is based on the historical figure Osman Ghazi, one of the famed rulers of the famous Ottoman Empire, and his proceedings as he navigates his way through the difficult world of politics, power, stealth, and various family dynamics, both good and otherwise.
There are a couple of main themes that the storylines in the show revolve around, which mostly include Osman’s struggles with both internal and external factors, his conquests and leadership, issues between various tribes and religious factions of the time, as well as a sprinkling of romance from time to time.
Before we can get to everything that Kuruluş: Osman Season 5 Episode 1 is about, we need to first take a quick recap of all that has occurred in the previous seasons of the show, especially Season Four, which opened many doors for Season Five to continue.
Everything that’s happened till Kuruluş: Osman Season 5 Episode 1
For those who don’t know, the story of Osman began even before the first season- this drama was preceded by a show by the name of Diriliş: Ertuğrul, which was also a huge hit with audiences all across the world and especially in Asia.
The show covered the life story of Osman’s father, Ertuğrul, and how he battled his adversaries to protect his own. Much like Kuruluş: Osman, the show ran for five seasons, after which our current drama took off.
In season one of Kuruluş: Osman, the story follows Ertuğrul’s brother and Osman’s uncle, Dündar, and the tensions between the Kayi tribe and the Mongols.
Unlike his brother, Dündar is not someone who remains firm in his principles but rather easily gives in to the temptations of power and wealth, especially after he becomes the Sançak Bey (military and administrative officer). It’s exactly this trait of his that makes him join the scheming of Alişar (another Sançak Bey) and Princess Sofia.
However, treason is not that easy, and what’s even harder is tricking Osman, who sees right through their plots and beheads Alişar while Sofia escapes with her life. Things are far from over as the problems between the Kayi and the Mongols only grow bigger and more disruptive. In this season, Osman also successfully marries his love, Bala.
The story continues in season two as Osman has to deal with Aya Nikola and his spy from the Byzantine Empire, as well as a steadily building alliance between Nikola and the Mongol Governor of Anatolia, Geyhatu. They decided to join hands against the Turks of Anatolia as well as Osman himself. Ultimately, Osman’s tact proves to tilt the balance between his and Nikola’s military strength, and the latter dies in the process.
In this season, Osman has to go through with a second marriage, political in nature, to Malhun, who later gives birth to their son, Orhan. At the same time, Bala Hatun also realizes that she’s pregnant with Osman’s child.
In the next season, the third, we see conflicts between the two wives, but in the end, they manage to settle them peacefully and wisely. However, Osman’s troubles do not end.
He continues to deal with the likes of Tekfur Nikola, Alemşah, and the Mongol Governor Geyhatu, battling fiercely and tirelessly to hold his own. In these turbulent times, after losing his father and becoming the Bey, he’s glad to gain an ally in Turgut Bey, especially while dealing with the dangerous cult leader Arius.
Now, in the fourth season, the heirs to the throne of the Byzantine Empire engage in a massive power struggle, and Constantinople is rife with plots, schemes, and murder.
One of the possible heirs, Kantakuzenos, attempts to assassinate another, Andronikos but is soon caught by Osman through his well-planted spies. This angers the latter, but the matter is soon taken care of by Osman, who by then has found himself in trouble with Nayman, a Mongol commander.
Not one to back down, Osman crushes all and any plots against him, including those of Nayman, Ismihan Sultan, Sultan Alaeddin Kayqubad III, and Valens of the Mouzalon family. He also manages to gain the support of Sultan Mesud, and by and by, Osman successfully declares his principality as independent. This allowed him to start taxing Byzantine caravans passing through his territory.
Oh, and let’s not forget the not-so-subtle love blooming between Alcicek, the daughter of Öktem Bey (Bey of the Kargin tribe) and Aktemur (Osman’s nephew), both of whom Osman helped to prove innocent against a false accusation of treason.
Kuruluş: Osman Season 5 Episode 1: Preview and Spoilers
Considering all of these complex plot lines and a variety of characters, it’s quite obvious why viewers are waiting so eagerly for the upcoming episodes. To know for yourself, check out the official trailer for Season 5 and all the hints at future possibilities.
If that wasn’t enough, Burak Özçivit, the absolutely swoon-worthy Turkish actor who plays the protagonist, took to his personal Instagram to share his excitement about the coming season as well.
The two official trailers have already raised quite a few eyebrows in terms of what the plot is hinting at. We see several recurring characters from previous seasons here, though some appear to be rather different as compared to their previous impressions.
For one, it is clear that Osman has not given up his conquests, with those of Bursa and others making an appearance in the teaser. It seems that this is not all that the next season has in store for us- from assassination attempts, sieges, and more familial complications. Kuruluş: Osman Season 5 Episode 1 already appears to be quite the rollercoaster.
