Kristin Cavallari recently opened up about the transformative decision to sever ties with her “narcissistic father,” describing it as the most empowering move she has made. During a candid conversation on Bunnie XO’s podcast, Dumb Blonde, she shared how this step played a pivotal role in her healing process.
Growing up, Cavallari struggled with deep emotional trauma, stemming from her difficult relationship with her father. She revealed that her need for connection, which was unmet at home, led her to experiment with substances at an early age. By the eighth grade, she had already started smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. These rebellious actions were part of a search for belonging, often in the wrong places.
Her tumultuous home life, marked by her father’s narcissism, prompted Cavallari to seek solace away from her mother’s home in Chicago. She moved in with her father in California, a decision that would shape her future in unexpected ways. There, she became a part of the cast of Laguna Beach, a role that thrust her into the spotlight.
Cavallari’s behaviors, like sneaking out and getting into trouble, were fueled by a desire to escape her difficult reality. She explained that she found connections through her boyfriend and friends, who were the only source of stability at the time. The “trauma” she experienced at home led her to make poor choices, but they were rooted in her need to find emotional release.
When asked about the nature of her strained relationship with her father, Cavallari did not hold back. She labeled him as a “narcissist,” highlighting the complexity and emotional damage it caused. After years of coping with her father’s toxic behavior, Cavallari ultimately made the life-changing decision to cut him out of her life for good.
She acknowledged that the emotional weight of severing ties with her father initially caused her some worry. Cavallari feared negative repercussions, such as “bad karma,” from making this difficult choice. However, after consulting a medium, she felt reassured. The medium validated her decision, explaining that her purpose in this lifetime was to stand up for herself and establish boundaries.
Now, at 37, Cavallari looks back on the choice with clarity and confidence. She views cutting her father out as “the best thing” she could have done, a final step in her personal healing journey. Having faced numerous challenges, from family issues to traumatic experiences, she now feels at peace and in control of her life.
This breakthrough has allowed Cavallari to reclaim her sense of self. “I’m about to turn 38,” she reflected, “and I finally feel like I’m in a good place with everything and have a good handle on it.” Her story is one of resilience, self-empowerment, and embracing personal growth.
