What Happened So Far? Beginning Of Season 1
Kotaro moves to a new neighborhood. And his neighbor is Shin Karino, an unsuccessful manga artist. As he is just a little kid, Shin feels as if it is his responsibility to look after this little kid whenever he needs anything. So, he decides to give him his time. As he spends time with Kotaro, Shin gets to know more about him. The reason why Kotaro lives alone is that his abusive father is not allowed to be near him. And his mother is said to be an irresponsible woman who leaves him alone at home for long periods. Kotaro speaks like a Japanese Feudal Lord, who is the result of him watching a TV cartoon about a samurai, Tonosaman.
Kotaro tries to get along with his neighbors by gifting them tissues. This made Shin curious. But, later on, he finds out the reason behind it. When he used to be left alone by his parents, he used to eat tissues out of hunger. When Shin came to know all this, he realized Kotaro has been suffering all this time, yet chooses to see the bright side and live on with his head high. After this, Shin decides to take care of Kotaro and be there for him. He started taking him to school and getting him back home, and making sure to fulfill his needs.
What Happened So Far? Turn Of Events In Season 1
But, life has a habit of never going steady. Life is like a roller coaster. If it can take you up high, then it will also take you down deep. Akane, Shin’s ex-girlfriend who is worried about Shin, does not want Shin to waste his time taking care of Kotaro. She thinks that he is holding Shin back. So, she decides to tell him that Shin can no longer take care of him as he does not have time for him. She keeps this from Shin. This creates distance between Kotaro and Shin, as they are both in the dark now.
Akane does not realize that Shin does not feel this way, but he cares for Kotaro. When he comes to what happened, he tells Kotaro how wrong Akane was. Akane said to Kotaro that being with him is affecting Shin’s art. But, Shin, after coming to know all this, tells him that Akane was wrong all along. Kotaro was not affecting his art but was inspiring his art even more.
Ending Of Season 1 Explained
After communicating with each other, Kotaro asks Shin to take him to a certain place. It was hard for him to explain, but still, Shin understood him and took him to that place. That place happened to be a cemetery. Kotaro explained how his mother brought him here once to his grandparents’ graves. He reveals to Shin that his mother’s name was Sayori Wamiya.
And soon, Shin comes to know that his mother is already dead as her headstone was there in the cemetery where she was buried. And Kotaro did not know that. What can be more heartbreaking than seeing a kid believe that his mother is alive, but she is not. Shin must have held himself back from breaking down because he knew he had to get himself together so that he could take care of Kotaro.
After this, Shin tells him that whenever he wants to come here, he will take him as he does not want Kotaro to find out about his mother being dead. Shin realizes that right now, Kotaro has no one but him. He promised himself that he would take care of Kotaro no matter what. Till ending, their bond becomes stronger than before. He started looking at Shin as his family now. As soon as they get back home, Kotaro pretending to be a Feudal Lord, announces to the entire neighborhood that Shin Karino is now his loyal subject.
What To Expect In Season 2?
Even though it is not sure when season 2 will come, it would not hurt to imagine what might happen next. The way season 1 ended, season 2 will show a new chapter of Kotaro’s life. And as previously said, “Life has a habit of never going steady” season 2 will also show lots of ups and downs.
We can expect Kotaro’s real father to show up someday. Then we might see him stuck between Shin, who cares for him like a father, and his real father. But we already know how this will end, don’t we? We might even get to see that someday he will end up knowing about his mother’s death. How will he handle this situation? Even thinking about it aches our hearts. He has already been through a lot. To suffer even more like this for a kid is painful, even for adults like us.
Other than the painful experiences, we expect to see Kotaro live happily with Shin Karino.
