Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and other senior British royals would be stepping down from their roles as patrons of nearly 200 charities and organizations.
This decision follows a comprehensive review conducted in the wake of Queen Elizabeth‘s passing, examining over 1,000 associations that included the Queen, Charles, and Queen Camilla.
Queen Elizabeth had affiliations with 492 organizations, while Charles and Camilla were linked to 441 and 100, respectively. After the review, approximately 830 patronages will be retained by the King and Queen, with some passed on to other members of the royal family.
Organizations often seek royal patronage to garner publicity and recognition for their endeavors. Among those maintaining their royal connections are notable entities like the Royal British Legion, the Dogs Trust, the Jockey Club, and the Wildlife Trusts.
Craig Bennett, Chief Executive of the Wildlife Trusts, expressed gratitude for King Charles’ continued patronage, highlighting his leadership in promoting sustainability and harmony with nature.
The conclusions of the review will be communicated to the relevant organizations this week, coinciding with the first anniversary of Charles and Camilla’s coronation.
