Juvenile Offender Manhw’s premise is very similar to that of the K-Drama The Glory. A quick disclaimer, major spoilers are ahead from both Juvenile Offender and The Glory, so read at your discretion. Just like in The Glory, the main character, Lee Yoon-Sung, was abused both physically and emotionally during her school years. Even the teachers feigned ignorance of this sort of behavior.
Even after being permanently scarred by them, the bullies were able to lie their way out, putting all the blame on Yoon-Sung. Because of that Yoon-Sung started to lose everything he held dear in his life. He lost his house and was about to be sued for insurance fraud, his grandmother fell into a coma, and his older sister, who tried to help him, was run over by a car, losing both her feet.
The Law that was supposed to protect people like him failed him at every turn. And just like in The Glory, Yoon-Sung decides to take matters into his own hands. In The Glory, Dong-Eun waited till she was an adult to take her revenge, but in Yoon-Sung’s case, it happened much earlier. With the help of a mysterious sponsor, he is exacting his revenge on all those who wronged him.
Yoon-Sung’s first stop was the Yangcheon Information And Communication School, AKA Yangcheon Detention Center. After blackmailing the warden into turning a blind eye to him, he gets to work. First on his list is Han Ji-Hoon, who we come to learn abused Yoon-Sung sexually. He proceeds to beat him to a pulp and break both his ankles crippling him permanently.
Next on his list was Park Sang-Cheol, the one who caused an explosion in his room, setting fire to everything, and the reason Yoon-Sung has a giant scar over his left forehead and eye, kinda like Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia. Yoon-Sung used his superior martial arts skills to keep him under his thumb, tormenting him every chance he got to the point that he got PTSD.
Both Ji-Hoon and Sang-Cheol were easy targets as they were already in correctional facilities. However, his next target is someone who hides in plain sight. In public, he is the perfect son and the perfect student. But behind closed doors, he is the most depraved of them all. Jo Yeong-Beom is an upstanding member of the community by day and head of a criminal enterprise by night.
Juvenile Offender Recap – What To Know Before Reading Chapter 15?
With the help of Joanna, Yoon-Sung’s mysterious sponsor, he was able to weasel his way into Yeong-Beom’s inner circle. He laid out a trap perfectly, and before he knew it, Yeong-Beom was fully caught inside it. After sending Kwon Chang-Soo, Yeong-Beom’s right-hand man, on a wild goose chase, Yoon-Sung set the stage for Yeong-Beom’s downfall.
First, he exposed Yeong-Beom’s real nature to the teacher he was secretly stalking. Yoon-Sung then used her to manipulate Yeong-Beom into incriminating himself. Yoon-Sung had the teacher place the camera Yeong-Beom was using to stalk her in the Male Staff Bathroom. She then tipped off a fellow teacher that there is a camera there. Knowing full well, it can be traced back to Yeong-Beom.
Yeong-Beom calls Yoon-Sung, whom he has come to trust unconditionally now, to break in and steal the camera. Unknown to him Yoon-Sung placed a tracker on it to track his moments. The Ethics Teacher who found the camera in the men’s room saw that it was moving and rushed to the scene catching Yeong-Beom red-handed. Yeong-Beom makes a run for it only to be caught.
Chang-Soo realizing he was tricked, came back to confront Yoon-Sung. They fight, and with some effort, Yoon-Sung is able to subdue him. He used his sleeve as a makeshift choker. Then in addition, the pouring rain gave him a significant advantage against Chang-Soo. After knocking him out, Yoon-Sung makes his way back to the building Yeong-Beom owns.
Yeong-Beom, in a panic, kicks the Ethics Teacher several times, leaving him bloodied and knocked out. He tried to make a run for it, only to run into police on his way out. He makes a run for it yet again, somehow stumbling his way back to his headquarters. He runs into Yoon-Sung at the entrance and collapses into his arms. Little did he know it was the beginning of the end for him.
Juvenile Offender Spoilers & Predictions – What To Expect From Chapter 15?
From the flashbacks, we know that it was Yeong-Beom who ran over Yoon-Sung’s older sister Lee Nah-Yeon over, with a car. She lost both her legs in that incident, forcing her to retire from her career as an athlete. And soon after, she died due to unknown reasons. What I am getting at is that Yoon-Sung will make sure he has no avenue left to escape from.
Yoon-Sung was able to deal a decisive blow to his reputation. He remarks how being labeled a sex offender was the worse thing that could happen to anyone in South Korea. Yeong-Beom will most likely try to lay low for a while, maybe even escape abroad. But I don’t think Yoon-Sung will let him do that. He must have something really special prepared just for him.
