The Clown Prince of Crime will make a return to theaters in Joker: Folie à Deux, and Warner Bros. has given fans a fresh look at the sequel. This new view features fresh footage from the upcoming project, directed by Todd Phillips. Arthur Fleck survived the events of the first movie, but his journey won’t be as smooth when he returns to the streets of Gotham City.
Joker: Folie à Deux will introduce Lady Gaga as Harleen Quinzel, a character previously portrayed by Margot Robbie in the DC Extended Universe. However, Gaga’s version of this famous DC villain will be adapted to fit the world depicted in Joker.
As Arthur and Harleen fall in love, Gotham City will face the dangerous aftermath of their romance. Given the nature of these characters, it’s difficult to predict what will happen to the couple when Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters. This sequel also marks Gaga’s first major film role since her appearance as Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci.
After the first Joker movie made more than $1 billion at the global box office, Warner Bros. felt confident enough to create another story featuring Arthur Fleck. Todd Phillips was brought back to direct the sequel, and he co-wrote the screenplay for Joker: Folie à Deux with Scott Silver.
Silver also worked on the script for the first movie, as well as other projects like The Finest Hours and 8 Mile. The creative minds who developed Arthur’s descent into madness have returned to examine his relationship with Harley Quinn.
Returning Cast of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’
Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as the main character in Joker: Folie à Deux, but he’s not the only actor from the first movie returning to Gotham City. Zazie Beetz will again portray Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s neighbor, who was initially introduced as a love interest in Joker.
However, it was later revealed that Arthur had imagined the entire romantic relationship. Leigh Gill and Sharon Washington will also return in their roles, making this one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. You can check out the new footage from Joker: Folie à Deux, before the movie premieres in theaters on October 4.
